       US - HPAI detected in the state of Hawaii

       SUMMARY - Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI) has been
       detected in a backyard flock of birds in the state of Hawaii.
       This follows the first-ever detection of HPAI in wastewater in
       the state although the waste treatment plant in question serves
       the property where the birds are located. The strain detected in
       the island state matches that which has affected cattle and
       poultry in the mainland US. It is presently not known how the
       birds became infected.
