Re: Republicans are about to ban all masks in public in NC

Edit: The more I've learned since I posted this article, I do
not believe it means anything and the bill will pass with no
exceptions for health reasons. People will just need to
understand the lines being crossed here and get ready for more
of it.
NC House temporarily shelves bill barring the wearing of masks.
Move comes as objections continue

I would ask that anyone who reads this thread within the next
day or two to use this tool
HTML https://www.ncmegaphone.com/
it gives you a way to email all members of the NC House at one
time. If you're using Microsoft Outlook, multiple emails are
denoted in a slightly different way, so make sure to select that
option if that is what you use. The tool splits the House into 2
lists, because some clients/servers won't allow for more than
100 email addresses at one time.
Reference NC House Bill 237 as your email subject. Email them
and tell them your concerns and stories. If you do not live in
NC, tell them how you feel about it. Let them know you will not
vacation, visit, or even pass through NC if you can help it.
Reference this list of companies headquartered in NC
(
HTML https://www.zippia.com/advice/largest-companies-in-north-carolina/)<br
/>and tell them you are reconsidering the use of their
products/services. Tell the companies that, too.
Thank you for any assistance you can provide.

Even though I'm glad this bill has paused temporarily, there is
still speculation that the final bill will contain language that
is not fully inclusive for anyone who wishes to mask to protect
their health. We shall see. Exhausting.
North Carolina House pauses passage of bill that would ban
masking for health reasons

House Speaker Tim Moore told reporters after the vote that he
understood why the Senate proposed its changes to the bill, but
there was interest in the House to draft language to maintain
health and safety protections for masking.

House Bill 237 came out of committee and it is actually worse
than it was before. I'm not sure how they managed that, but that
is the nature of the Republican party. Always. Make. Things.
Worse. [My opinion and not necessarily the opinion of the owner
of this forum or any members besides myself.]
It was supposed to be voted on today, but Democrats were able to
move the vote to Tuesday, June 11 to allow for public feedback.
As if feedback made much difference anyway.
Bill, as it stands currently, allows for "medical grade masks"
(no specification for N95 masks so are they to be illegal?),
masking to avoid SPREADING disease, but no specification to
avoid GETTING INFECTED by disease and now members of the public
can demand a person wearing a mask remove their mask for
identification.
Revisions can be seen here:

If you are concerned about this bill, especially after
revisions, contact the members of the committee, especially the
Republicans.

Finally, you can also contact NC Tourism at (1-800-847-4862). If
you are monitoring this situation and are seeing people say they
will not vacation or visit NC, let them know that. If you,
personally, will not spend money in NC, then let them know that.
Tell them specifically if House Bill 237 is passed by the state
legislature, NC is a no go state for you.

Bill will likely be voted on tomrrow, June 11, at 2pm. If you
haven't called/emailed the House Republicans using the links
above, now is the time to do it. If this passes in NC, it will
pass everywhere.
As the bill currently stands, "occupants" of public and private
spaces will be able to ask you to remove your mask for the
purpose of identification.

Bill passes and will go to the Governor Cooper. Whether he will
veto or not remains to be seen. NCGOP supermajority will
override any veto. Bill will become law probably by end of week.
As of that establishment of law, the language currently states
(and it has been confirmed by state democrats) that any member
of the public can demand that you remove your mask in any public
or private place for "identification". How you are identified,
length of identification verification process allowed not
specified, etc etc etc. Vague and bad, bad legislation. It will
cause many problems. Whether or not, and how quickly, this ends
up in court where more clarification may or may not become
available is unclear.
I'll wrap up this thread once it's been through the Governor and
becomes law. Perhaps I'll start a new thread after that where
I'll post any further legal proceedings I feel are pertinent.
This action by the NCGOP will not remain contained in North
Carolina. I am confident of that.
