they're 17 alone in a tent. That's natural. And nothing
happened, so I don't know why people get so worked up (except
for the fact that it does very much diminish Harry's feelings
for Ginny. He shouldn't have looked so disappointed. Or they
should have at least included him looking at Ginny's name on the
map a few times).

I could see this if we hadn't been in Harry's head for 7 years
and there simply wasn't any "what if" moments. And I know, I
know. The movie can be separate from the book, but still. :P
I think if I were a hardcore Harry/Ginny shipper I would hate it
even more. But I don't mind when people say that like it for all
the reasons you listed. It's when they like it because of the
"romantic undertones" that I get the urge to run the whole staff
over with Rupert's ice cream truck. ;)

Well, just to add a bit more clarification, when I talk about
the "what if" moment, I'm thinking in terms of that one scene
when they're dancing. Not Harry contemplating Hermione as he
falls asleep in Gryffindor Tower, you know?

I thought, since I really, truly hate how the films seem to do
so much with a Harry/Hermione romance that shouldn't be there,
that I would hate the dance, but I couldn't do anything but
smile in the theater when I saw it. And I still smile.
The song is amazing, and wonderful for the scene. The dance
itself is fun to watch.
I don't see how it was supposed to be romantic tension between
Hermione and Harry, because I saw friendship and something that
pointed more to Ron/Hermione. Here is a scene where Hermione's
having fun dancing with Harry, and at the end, she becomes
depressed again, because she misses Ron. Harry couldn't help her
not miss Ron any. That is what I got from the scene.

Hermione (mostly from Harry's part) while ignoring the
Harry/Ginny romance, which was already **** on and ruined beyond
all measure before hand. It may have been originally intented as
two friends ****ing around just to ease the tension of their
crappy camping trip (the script certainly seems to indicate
this), but this romantic angle was put in and built up and I
hate it.

to cut it out of my DVD all together, I would.

^ this basically. Harry and Ginny was already on such shoddy
footing in the movies. Their relationship was trampled on. Harry
was so OOC in every aspect of H/G. They made it seem in the
movies as if he was only together with Ginny because she was
there and convenient, you don't get any indication that he's had
these feelings building up. They had a lovely moment together at
the Burrow that is virtually destroyed by this dance scene,
because as much as you want to think it's two friends goofing
around it's not - it's that "moment" as Dan and Emma and Yates
kept saying that something COULD have happened. The movies are
H/Hr heavy. It didn't need to be in there at all. We already
know they are close. If Yates and Kloves had done a better job
assuring the audience that Harry was always going to be with
Ginny it would have worked a lot better, but we didn't get that.

Blerg. It wouldn't been so bad if it weren't for the fact Yates
was selling and still trying to sell the scene as a "What if"
moment and just having Hermione walk away. Ummm...BOTH of them
should have walked away. Just having Hermione walking away due
to Ron shows that Harry doesn't give a f*** about Ginny who he's
suppose to love and doesn't give a f*** about Ron who is he's
bff who he does know loves Hermione.
Plus it makes it like a love triangle when there isn't one.
Harry while he cares for Hermione, but not in THAT way. It's bad
enough Harry/Ginny's relationship is treated like s*** in the
films, way to make it seem worse with this.

I finally saw the movie and I thought the dance was Harry trying
to cheer Hermione up. I can't say that I loved it, but I didn't
hate it either. I voted for the number one option because I
didn't see it as undermining of any of the relationships.

It wouldn't seem like that if it weren't for Yates saying OVER
AND OVER how it was a what if moment. It was annoying and the
fact after the kiss with Ginny at the Burrow, there was no
second thought to it.
And this scene being a what if, shouldn't it be BOTH Harry and
Hermione walking away from it and not just Hermione? It's like
they forget Harry has a relationship with Ginny. Makes it seem
like Harry is willing to cheat on Ginny and not give a f**k
about Ron's feelings.

This.
The scene itself was fine. The description Steve Kloves gave
was fine and fit what I thought when I first saw it. It was
David Yates' quotes that made it annoying. Especially given
what he'd already done to the HG storyline. Him advertising
that this was his mindset just sort of reinforced what a lot of
the HG fans were already thinking the problem was with that
storyline.
