About to watch episode 6, my thoughts so far...

I wasn't really expecting to like this show, but it's actually
really good. I'm interested to see Sookie's reaction to her gran
being dead (didn't expect this to happen this early). I'm
thinking it would be too obvious to expect it was Sam, but he's
really the only clear choice.
I dunno what's the go with that dog, does Sam have some power to
control it or something (he makes barking noises in his sleep
and gets off on smelling that dead waitresses sheets, so there's
something doggish about him).
Definately going to keep watching the rest of the series, I hate
that it has a reputation as a 'girly' show, if only it had come
out before the Twilight vampire obsessions, sure it has some
feminine elements, but it's mostly just a dark, gritty fantasy
series that, I think, anyone can watch.
Also, I never realised Anna Paquin was hot until watching this
show, I don't typically go for blondes, but she's surprised me.
I was expecting Sookie to annoy me, but she hasn't yet, I reckon
she might later on though, but we'll see.
Thought it was a bit ridiculous that Jason would go straight
back onto the V blood after having that fucking penis operation,
I mean, as a guy if I had just had that happen to me I think I
would want to just take it easy for a while lol, but I guess
he's just meant to be seen as a giant douche and an dumbass so I
guess it makes sense for him to do it.
I like the title sequence but I think it goes for too long.

Um, it did. Both the Southern Vampire Mysteries (i.e. the Sookie
Stackhouse novels) and the TV series predate Twilight. Alan Ball
was working on developing the show back in like late 2005/early
2006 (when the first Twilight book was out but way before it
started getting popular) and the first season premiered in
September 2008, two months before Twilight even opened. Just
because you just started watching it now doesn't mean it didn't
exist and have a following before Twilight.
Sorry to to nitpick/be a bitch, but that really annoys me.
And Sookie will eventually start to annoy you if she hasn't
already.

Yeah but the fact that the series premiered before the Twilight
movies doesn't mean that the Vampire craze, started by Twilight,
didn't make True Blood more popular than it would have been
otherwise. The Twilight books were already extremely popular
before the movies came out.
I've only seen three episodes and i'm into it but I just have no
free time anymore.

I guess. But most TB fans I know are TB fans only/primarily and
couldn't give less of a shit about Twilight. And a lot of
Twilight fans are probably too young for True Blood or would
be/are turned off by a lot of the sex and gore. I don't think
the overlap is as big as some people think, and I think True
Blood would've been fine with or without Twilight. *shrugs*

I know there isn't really any comparison between the two, and I
know there were books that were out before Twilight like you
said, but I was just saying Twilight has had an impact on how
people perceive the show (e.g. "it's just another gay vampire
show riding on Twilight's success") I know it's not true in the
slightest, but that's what everyone I know sees it as.
So yeah, I understand how it would piss you off, and I don't
make the comparison anymore as I know now from watching this
show that they are two completely different things (one being
preteen shit, the other being pretty much the opposite).
I agree with you too though, that this show would still be
popular even without the vampire craze that Twilight started.
Are the books good? And does the series stick to the books or
does it branch out?

The books actually aren't that good and are very girly. It's not
like Game of Thrones where they can adapt it pretty much
straight and have it work. Ball takes a LOT of liberties but
they're all for the best, I think.

I don't think it is considered a girly show at all. I know a lot
of guys that watch it. The only reasons I used to hear for
people not watching it is because they didn't have HBO. Now that
it's pretty easy to catch up on episodes without needing it I
know plenty of guys who are now getting into it. The only people
who compare it to Twilight are people that haven't seen a second
of the show and anyone would be dumb to get an opinion from
someone who has no idea what they are talking about.
