I don't think the Burrow attack was pointless.

I just re-watched this movie again after almost a year, and it
struck me how this time around how much I liked the Burrow
scene. Say what you want about it being unneccisary or wasted
time to the movie, but as far as the scene goes and motivations,
I don't find it pointless at all.
So Bellatrix lands, smiles at Harry. She sends the bait, and
Harry grabs. Notice the fire which battle Lupin and Tonks open
perfectly for Harry to exit and chase Bellatrix, who is shouting
'i killed sirius black!" trying to get Harry to follow her,
where Greyback is waiting in the reeds. But when Tonks, Remus,
and Arthur join the kids, you see a shot of Bellatrix looking at
the group, then back at Greyback with a "This didn't work" face,
and they flee and destroy the Burrow in the process.
It also shows how awful the DE's are.
       Meh.

Agree with all of this, it was a good way (not perfect) to show
how dangerous the wizarding world had become and not even the
Weasley's were safe. I hadn't noticed that look she gave Fenrir
but the way you described it makes it sound much more logical
and makes the scene seem more purposeful.
The house was pretty burnt up though and I expected them to make
some tiny mention of it in DH: Part 1, but it didn't really
matter I'm sure they just used magic to fix it up.

That scene still bothers me, but not for the reason that it
makes no sense in itself. It does make sense, as in I think The
DE's doing that is perfectly possible and in character.
What doesn't make sense is that they don't seem to even try to
hurt anyone, and later none of the Weasleys seem to give a damn
       that they're homeless.
Or if they're not homeless, if it could be rebuilt quickly, then
what was the point of the DE's burning it in the first place?
I like the scene as a stand alone piece. It's a good scene.
Until you realize it just doesn't fit into the movie.

Yeah, I just went on Youtube and you see Bellatrix look at the
large group, then turn her head, then you see Fenrir turn look
back at her, cut to Bellatrix leaving.
And the burned down house, I really just leave it up to the
       "magic"

I don't think it was pointless. My only major complaint is that
it happened, and nothing was ever said about it again afterward,
ever. It wasn't even really alluded to when they went back to
       school, or even in DH.

Exactly. I think it was a really good scene that fit pretty well
with the context (Death Eaters may not always kill, but they
want people to be paranoid and always looking over their
shoulder so they can attack from the front). The only thing that
would've made it better was if they actually mentioned it later
on. They had Hermione mention it, but it was right after the
scene. Like, right after. But I'm pretty sure I saw a ladder on
the back of the Burrow during the Obliviate montage. Not sure if
it was for the wedding or for the repairs, though. Maybe it was
       for both?

Yeah, I was delusional enough to think that Harry would use it
as a reason that he couldn't hook up with Ginny in a break-up
replacement scene in DH1 at the time....to basically say that he
was afraid that they'd go after Ginny if it were known they were
dating since they'd already burnt down the Burrow because of her
family's connections to Harry. Something like that. It would
have made it a one-off from the original breakup. I dunno.
       But, alas, no.
It made sense to do because it stripped away all of Harry's
safe-havens in one movie. Neither Hogwarts nor the Burrow were
safe by the end of HBP, and Harry knew Snape had access to
Grimauld and he believed Snape was a traitor. So, as far as
Harry was concerned, he had no place left to safely hide from
       Voldemort.

Basically this. I think the scene worked, and fulfilled its
purpose. But sometimes I feel it doesn't fit because of how
fast it's forgotten. Then they're just back at The Burrow at
the beginning of DH1 as if nothing had happened, when it had
been seemingly destroyed 7 months earlier.
