GoT S4 E10: The Children
By: codyesh2 Date: June 15, 2014, 9:10 pm

Damn that was an action packed episode.
Things I liked:
1. Tyrion's Escape.
2. Jon building Ygritte's funeral Pyre.
3. Blood Raven and the Children.
4. Stannis & Jon and Jon & Tormund interactions.
5. Arya & The Hound
What I Didn't Like:
1. The ending...
No Lady Stoneheart.
Also, that shot of Melisandre looking at Jon through the fire...

Not sure I can speak for the "non-ending" since I haven't read
the books but after reading about that, I was hoping to see her
and how she would have made her entrance. I could have sworn the
whole thing was setting up for that. Otherwise, I liked it.
Tyrion's last scene was both awesome and heartbreaking. Does
this mean Littlefinger is now the show's main villain?
I'm just temporarily disappointed that they didn't
include LS. However, if the opening scene of Season 5 is the
reveal of LS that would be cool by me. I can picture them
shooting it like they did the Tywin melting Ice scene. Except, a
Frey will be dragged and thrown in front of a hooded figure.
Slow pan up and you see LS's face and her motion for him to be
hanged.
I think the main 'villains' will be LF, Cersei, and the Boltons.
Also, I really don't understand why book purists even bother
watching adaptions.

Eh.
This season was really badly structured and it shows here. Why
the hell did they waste so much time on Bran and Craster's Keep?
Stannis' arrival just doesn't have the same impact here as it
would have had it been in episode 9. I also dislike the way he
almost immediately starts asking Jon what to do. In the book
(the fifth one) it's after a long time of knowing Jon that he
actually listens to some of his suggestions, but given that D&D
simplify almost everything, this doesn't surprise me.
The best bit of the episode for me was the Brienne/Hound duel
scene which, surprisingly, turned out to be possibly the best
this show has ever done. Also, Alex Graves didn't completely
suck like he has done for most of this season so that was a plus
as well. The ending with Arya was rushed, and Dany's scene was
OK.
I didn't care much for the Bran storyline in the book though and
amazingly they've managed to make me care even less in the show.
I also have mixed feelings about LS in the book itself, so I
don't feel strongly one way or another that they cut her (from
this season at least), though I was still a bit surprised.
My biggest complaint is how badly they're handling Tyrion. So he
kills Shae... in SELF DEFENSE... THEN he has to say he's sorry
TWICE. Please, beat us over the head with it more, D&D, I don't
think we get it yet. They might as well just have him start a
charity organization in Braavos next season seeing as how
they're hellbent on "purifying" him.

Where are you when I'm actually praising stuff? (Not necessarily
GOT)

I liked it for the most part. I agree that Stannis's arrival
would have been way better at the end of episode 9, but
whatever.
The Child of the Forest felt mad cheesy. As did the skeletons. I
felt like I was watching a totally different show.
But the one thing that really frustrates me is how the show is
so committed to making Jaime heroic and awesome. His goodbye
with Tyrion in the books goes much more differently than on the
show. I'm not a purist by any means, but what they say to each
other sticks with each of them for a while and informs all their
decisions. Its annoying after a while in the books, but to get
rid of it entirely and simplifying that relationship is a waste
to me.
I really like Varys basically going "f'ck it" and getting on the
ship after Tyrion. I liked everything with Arya, the Hound,
Brienne, and Podrick. Stannis and company at Castle Black was
good too. Dany and her dragons was sad. And for a second I
thought Cersei was going to rape Jaime.

What I'm wondering is why they've seemingly decided not to put
any effort/budget into the Children of the Forest and
Bloodraven... it felt more like a bunch of homeless kids in rags
serving an old man stuck in a tree.

They probably just ran out of money to do the Children and
BloodRaven justice...Mayhaps they will dedicate more resources
to their appearance next Season. I thought that Leaf/Child of
Forest#1 looked alright. I just hope next season they do a close
up on BloodRaven's face and we see his birthmark, one eye, and
his face connected to the tree.

This episode might just be my favorite of the season. Nest to
Arya, Bran's storyline is the one I find the most interesting
and we finally saw something big happen with him again.
Thing I liked:
1. The ending with Arya.
2. All that happened with Bran.
3. The scene with Jon and Tormund.
4. Dany locking the dragons away.
The only thing I didn't like about the episode was the
Cersei/Jaimie scene. I really hate Cersie and wants as much bad
to happen to her as possible, so I was really hoping for Jaimi
rejecting her so she would have lost that thing too.
