GoT S4 E8: Red Viper vs. The Mountain(Spoilers)
By: codyesh2 Date: June 1, 2014, 9:04 pm

Thought it was amazing.
Best Bits:
1. That Fight scene. Everything I wanted it to be and Pedro
Pascal delivered.
2. Sansa Stark of Winterfell learning to be a player...Yohn
Royce was also awesome...PedoFinger still being PedoFinger.
3. Tyrion and Jaime in the jail cell was interesting.
Other Thoughts:
1. Missandei/Nathalie Emmanuel...Damn she makes Dany scenes so
much more bearable.
2. The Boltons are at Winterfell and it makes me sad.
3. Later Jorah.
4.
Oberyn mentioning Tyrion being in a fighting pit was
neat
I was waiting the whole episode for the fight and I'm not sure
if I'm surprised at the outcome. I mean, the way his head
POPPED, like...damn. I'm seriously just hoping Tyrion pulls some
kind of shit or Jaime does something unexpected.
I sort of laughed with Arya when she heard about Lysa. It's like
she's thinking "Well fuck me, is there anybody I don't know that
isn't dead?!"
Not sure how I feel about Sansa defending Littlefinger, though I
think she's got something up her sleeve.
I agree, I enjoyed the bit with Tyrion and Jaime.

Arya's reaction to Lysa's death was perfect. I actually think
that was my favorite part of the episode.
I liked the fight scene, but it could have been better. There
were too many jump cuts for my liking. And there was a nice
tracking shot earlier in the episode so I was extra disappointed
at that. But RIP Oberyn. I knew it had to happen, but its a
shame all the same.
And that shot of Sansa with the sunlight behind her and
Littlefinger's face was great and sort of ridiculous but also
fun.

That head pop was f'cking gruesome and the scream just topped it
off, I think I laughed just at how gory they made it. The fight
was a little underwhelming but I couldn't really see any way
they could have done it better, and Pedro Pascal was perfect
till the end. I loved that so many non-book readers (my brother
included) were so sure he was going to win, I think the show did
a great job at making the fight seem not too easy but still
clearly Oberyn's to win.
Is it weird that I'm not really looking forward to next weeks
episode, at least compared to I was for this episode and Episode
10? A whole episode at the Wall, even if it is the big battle
(and my favourite Jon Snow chapter of the series) it's just not
what gets me excited about this show. I hope they prove me wrong
though and top Blackwater (which I also find less and less
entertaining on rewatches).

What in God's name was up with the editing in the Oberyn scene?
Is this the only way these people know how to film a fight
scene? That opening shot was OK but as is typical for this show
it was pretty random. The actual fight scene was underwhelming
and I thought the ending was rushed...
I liked most of the rest of the episode. I'm not sure where
they're going with the Missandei/Grey Worm thing but it's
interesting. The Tyrion/Jaime scene was actually funny. I didn't
like the Dany/Jorah stuff though. I'm guessing the letter will
be explained in the future but I don't think Jorah's banishment
scene was good. Emilia Clarke wasn't good, but I also blame
Graves/B&W because of the way they chose to have Dany act/react
in that scene.

Best parts for me:
-The Red Viper vs. The Mountain. I can understand some people
talking about the editing. But it was easily the best
choreographed scene the show has ever done. Oberyn's fighting
style was perfect!
-Dany sending Jorah away. Some of the best acting Emilia Clarke
has ever done in the series, and Iain Glen was, of course,
incredible. I really felt for both of them in that scene, and
that's what made it excellent.
-Sansa lying for little finger and finally coming into her own
in terms of playing the game. Some of the best acting we've
seen from Sophie Turner as well.
-Arya laughing at Lysa's death...it was just perfect.
Overall, I've really liked Tyrion and Jaime's scenes together
this season (Dinklage and Coster-Waldau have excellent
chemistry), but the one in this episode I just felt went on for
a bit. It was beautifully done, but there's something about it
that made me feel kind of "meh".

I think what I liked about her acting in that scene was that
should could not even look at him and just looked so repulsed
and betrayed.
