GoT S4 E5: First of His Name
       By: codyesh2 Date: May 4, 2014, 9:11 pm
       ---------------------------------------------------------
       Things I Liked:
       1. Lysa and Sansa-Thought it was a great scene overall. Saw how
crazy and paranoid Lysa is and got some history of the Tully
girls. There was also a Brandon Stark namedrop, but more
       importantly LEMONY LEMONY LEMON CAKES.
       2. The resolution of Crasters Keep. Hodor going Super Saiyan,
Ghost killing Rast, the death of Karl 'A ****ing legend' Tanner,
and burning down the keep. The reunion of Jon and Ghost was
nice. Also, the near Stark reunion was well handled. A lot of
people were panicking about Bran and Jon meeting.
       3. Arya and the Hound always amuse. Pretty sure she's gonna
stick Needle through his eye later in the season...
       Things I Didn't Like:
       1. LittleFinger and Lysa having sex...They really didn't need to
have Sansa hear it through the walls.
       2. The Meereen scene definitely didn't really fit in this
       episode.
       3. Didn't know why Jojen's hand was on fire for a moment, but I
guess it was his 'sight' of Crasters burning.
Also, looks like they won't be drastically cutting Dorne's
storyline down like many expected. With Oberyn mentioning the
Sand Snakes, Myrcella, and Sunspear it looks like we will be
getting a good taste of Dorne in the future.
PS: Judging by the preview, next week's episode should be
       interesting...

Great episode, I thought it was much better than last weeks.
       Liked:
       - Everything to do with Sansa and Lysa, I was surprised they
revealed that Lysa killed Jon Arryn in such a quiet scene and
I'm sure that flew over most casual viewers heads
       - Arya's "water dancing"
       - Jon finally becoming a good character
       - Hodor killing Loche(!!) that was a surprisingly powerful scene
which I wasn't expecting it at all
       Meh:
Dany's scene - it was a very clunky and mechanical scene and it
made her decision to stay and rule in Meereen feel forced and a
little cheap, moreso then it did in the book
       Unsure of:
Cersei and Margaery's conversation - I mean it was a good scene
and well acted, but it seemed a little out of character for
Cersei to be so openly civil with Margaery, although as the
Tywin/Cersei conversation later on showed, she was doing it for
the 'good of the family' which I guess I can accept.

This episode was alright. The Locke stuff made no sense to me
though. His whole storyline, even Bran and all getting captured,
etc., feels like pointless filler now. Also what's up with them
trying to turn Cersei into a sympathetic character? Not just
sympathetic though, they have to have her admit she was
"shocked" by Joffrey. I know they've always tried to portray her
as a bit more sympathetic than in the books and I did like some
of the stuff they did with her in seasons 1/2, but I'm not sure
       where they're going with this.
I enjoyed most of the rest of the episode though. I did
especially like the Terminator 2-ish ending that Karl got. That
was great. The Vale stuff was good (I also lol'd that they kept
in Lysa screaming while having sex with Littlefinger), the
Podrick/Brienne stuff was amusing, and Arya/Hound. The Dany
stuff was alright (I thought Emilia Clarke looked great, at
least) but mostly I just liked the fact that Ser Jorah got to
       speak for a change.
Michelle MacLaren though obviously is not an action director -
while the Jon/Karl duel was mostly OK, the battle before it was
a mess of confused one-off closeup shots of people's heads
stitched together with no coherence whatsoever.

Cercie was nice to Oberyn, Tywin, and Marg/Mace in order to sway
the trial in her favor rather than Tyrion's.

That's what I was thinking but I can never be too sure with
       Benioff and Weiss.

The Bran and Locke stuff may seem like filler but:
       1. Locke and Ramsay were bros. Ramsay is going to think that Jon
Snow killed Locke. Ramsay gets angry at Jon Snow. Ramsay sends a
       very mean letter...
       2. Locke's job was to find Bran AND Rickon. Since Rickon wasn't
with Bran I am sure that Locke thought he would be able to get
Rickon's location out of Bran, hence taking Bran alive.
