GoT S4 E3: Breaker of Chains

Definitely a 'Set Up' episode.
Highlights of the Episode:
1. Tywin and Tommen.
2. Oberyn and Tywin.
Charles Dance and Pedro Pascal are phenomenal.
I don't know why they decided to make the Thenns scary
cannibals, but man are they a bunch of pr!cks.
Jaime and Cersei are gross, and that scene didn't need to be
that rapey...
"They couldn't raid a pantry" Classic Stannis right there.
Really not much to say. Just excited for the action to happen in
the upcoming episodes.

I liked it well enough. Oberyn is just great, couldn't be
better. And I'm going to really miss Dance after this season.
But yeah, definitely more of a set-up. Which is fine. I actually
want to get back to the North; I'm kind of glad they're speeding
that plotline ahead. Same with the Iron Bank.
I do wonder how Arya ditches the Hound now, seeing as it was, I
think, the inn fight that left him wounded.

Did Jaime seriously rape Cersei? I haven't watched the episode
yet so I'm reading all these comments without context, but that
sounds like an extremely unnecessary change to his character.

She was crying and all like "stop it jaime" and he was just like
"No *thrust* no *thrust* no *thrust*"

As a matter of fact, he said "I don't care." Having just
finished watching this, I have to say that I don't think the
scene was as bad as I thought it'd be, it was short and quick,
but there definitely wasn't any consent, and it's a stupid,
pointless scene - in the book, Jaime has just returned with
Brienne, and that's why he sort of pounces on Cersei the first
chance he gets; also, in the book, the consent part was crystal
clear. The writing and directing in this scene were especially
muddled because, according to the director Alex Graves, their
intention was to show that Cersei had consented "eventually,"
and that didn't come across at all (to say nothing of how warped
his definition of "consent" is, but I digress).
I also wondered how it is that Tywin suddenly knows everything
that's happening everywhere. They had some good lines in this
episode though. I liked Stannis' line to Davos about those
Houses whose armies he got and another line by the Hound to
Arya. I enjoyed Sam and Gilly's first scene but I don't really
care about the whole hiding in Mole's Town plot. I was also
liking Tyrion's scene but then they start with the whole 'don't
sacrifice yourself for me, Pod" stuff that I didn't like, and as
if that wasn't bad enough, he goes on, "there has never lived a
better squire" with the sad strings in the background... ugh.
They continue to butcher my favorite character. Dany's scenes
were OK.
My biggest problem is that, much like last season at this same
point, I don't really get a strong sense of direction at the
moment. Everything just feels very scattershot. Things happen
here, things happen there... there's really no "flow" to the
episodes.
Overall though I thought it was better than last week's episode.
6.5-7/10.

I definitely feel like this is one of the series' weak points.
The more the story gets fractured the less flow we have. The
show would benefit by scaling down on how many character's
stories they try to fit in each episode but that would also be a
hindrance to setting up the big picture items. This is why I
feel the show heavily caters towards book readers and can be a
difficult and at times tedious watch to someone who doesn't
already know where it's going. I expect that there has to be a
turning point where more character's stories merge but we're far
from that, so I'd hope by the last few seasons we saw some more
consistency like we did in S1 & 2.

I believe Martin has said that the last two books(AWOW and ADOS)
will see the characters 'come back together' so I hope that
helps the show in the future...

The "rape" scene was definitely overblown and I'm already sick
of reading all the comments about it. I don't like how they
portrayed that scene but it wasnt nearly as bad as everyone is
making it out to be.
It was interesting to see Ygritte go full Wildling and it
complemented the Arya/Hound scene showing the bad situation of
the small folk due to this war.
Dany's scene was pretty anticlimatic and one-note, I'm assuming
theyre saving her big moment for the next episode. Really don't
care at all for her scenes except for the cool visuals.

Literally the only two things I thought during Dany's scene
were:
1. I bet a better archer could take her out from here.
2. What if one of her big-ass barrels had hit a group of slaves?
I'm getting sick of the blonde Jesus shtick and I hope they keep
more of her unsavory bits. They've already muddied up the
Astapor thing; on the show she says not to hurt any kids but in
the book it was no one under 12. So 13-year-old boys are
screwed.

"It’s my cut of the scene. The consensual part of it was that
she wraps her legs around him, and she’s holding on to the
table, clearly not to escape but to get some grounding in what’s
going on. And also, the other thing that I think is clear before
they hit the ground is she starts to make out with him. The big
things to us that were so important, and that hopefully were not
missed, is that before he rips her undergarment, she’s way into
kissing him back. She’s kissing him aplenty."
