American Hustle

I liked it despite its flaws. Bale was the only standout for me.
Jennifer Lawrence was good as well and her character added an
interesting dynamic to the movie (which for a good while in the
first act seemed to be going nowhere fast) and I bought her over
the top antics far easily than I did Cooper's bursts of anger
and frustration and whatnot. Amy Adams, as usual, is just there.
Renner was miscast (as were a lot of others, especially Shea
Wigham) but I think he does a fine job of portraying "the decent
man."
All that said though, the amount of cleavage on screen was quite
pleasing on the eyes.

Bale was really good and I liked his character a lot. I read in
a review (it was from a crappy local news station) that all of
the characters were too unlikable to enjoy. Yes, they all had
those despicable things about them, but I think they all had
sympathetic moments, especially Irving.
I agree about Cooper. I thought he was great with his
outbursts/anger in SLP, but here it was not as believable.
Also, I loved every scene with Louis CK.

Movies don't have to have likable characters for you to enjoy
it, but with that said, I'm not sure
if the film's
happy ending was really earned in any way. People have compared
this film to Scorsese, and while superficially it may seem so,
that ending to me rings false and it is also extremely
un-Scorsese-like so I'm not really even sure why some critics
(like Christy Lemire) think David O. Russell has outdone
Scorsese.
Those critics can eat cock. The film was decent enough but I
hardly see how it merited such praise. I've said it before but
Bale was the single best thing about the movie. I really liked
Renner's performance too, and Lawrence wasn't so bad, even if
some of her delivery is phoned in. Then again, I think she's
unbelievably overrated and I despise her fanbase so I'm kinda
biased. Plus I think Russell is a gigantic asswipe whose choice
of cinematographic style is distracting and often times
obnoxious.

Yeah I have no idea what he was doing during those weird moments
like when his camera would just look down at someone's hands
while they're talking (happened at least twice in the movie) but
it didn't really bother me that much.

I thought it was ok, better than Silver Linings but not that
great to get 10 noms. Although I don't get how it won GG for
best comedy/musical over Wolf which was a much much better film.
I think only Bale and Cooper were good, Adams was ok but I think
her cleavage got more screentime than herself. Lawrence was meh,
I actually feel she overacts some of the scenes she's in.
That being said, I have no clue why the camera zoomed to their
hands in some scenes.
