What a mess of an episode :-\ I really liked parts of it,
including the regen, but I just felt like they tried to cram too
much into one episode and it was all over the place. Clara's
family bit was totally pointless (was that supposed to be her
dad? Because he's changed actors. And who was that woman?
Because I'm sure her mum being dead was a fairly major plot
point before. Weird) and I didn't feel like the "Town Called
Christmas" turning out to be Trenzalor was any sort of surprise
or that there was really any point other than to make it a bit
festive.
Also I still don't really get why the Doctor didn't answer the
question seeing as at the end of the 50th he was all about
finding and saving Gallifrey and there didn't seem to be a big
change of heart moment other than 'well it will bring fighting
back' which surely he already knew?
I am glad that it tied up a lot of loose ends but it just felt
so squashed together and messy that I thought they should either
have cut a storyline or two or made it a two-parter.

It was a huge letdown. They spent so much time building up tp
this epic battle and it was over in five minutes. The episode
should have been a two parter. It certainly looked more than
twice the budget of The End of Time and that was a two parter.
That blew jizz.

While there were things I liked, there were a lot more things I
didn't like, so I can't really say I liked it. Matt's speech
was great, it broke the fourth wall enough so that it seems like
Matt's own personal feelings, but it could also be looked at as
the 11's thoughts. Visuals were good. I thought everyone's
acting was great. And it was silly at time, but in a good way.
Unfortunately, everything just felt rushed. I found myself at
times just completely unsure of what was going on and how some
things were connected. I had a friend watching with me, which
helped some, but everything still felt very confusing. This
could've easily been a two-parter, and I think it would've
helped solve a lot of issues about confusion, as well as
appeasing the fans with another episode. Also, wasn't really a
fan of the regeneration. It felt too quick. I know the process
technically started on the top of the tower so it actually
lasted a while, but until it was Matt's face again, it didn't
really feel right. It just happened way to fast.

The thing about the regeneration that felt quick or jarring was
that even though it had started earlier we got this emotional
moment w/ Amy and then BAM PETER CAPALDI. I needed maybe 1 or 2
seconds more of Matt for the moment to sink in. It was kind of
like whiplash because I went from being teary to laughing.
Anyway, I liked the episode despite its vast flaws. I like Clara
as a character but I don't really like her with Matt for
whatever reason, I think she'll be better w/ Capaldi and without
any hint of romantic entanglement. Because of that I can't say I
was a fan of all the "I luv the Doctor wut?" moments she had.
Are we going to pretend like Tasha Lem isn't some kind of
regenerated miraculously post library possibly River Song? There
were several references to that. I think the episode highlighted
Matt's strong points, the great speeches, the silly mixed with
the serious, and I liked that kind of old man/young man/ Santa
Claus sort of aspect to it. Obviously the most emotional part
was the Amy cameo/goodbye. That got me, that and the dropped bow
tie. Props to whoever did the wigs too:

@Sally, I think the reason behind him not saying his name was
not entirely his decision. If he said it not only would it have
restarted the Time War but he would be destroying the planet he
was on either as a fallout from the war itself or because the
Church of the Silence would have obliterated it. Even if the
Timelords had come in peace, as he said they would, it wouldn't
have been safe to come out since they'd be walking in to
essentially a death trap. IDK I try to throw logic out the
window before watching some of these episodes, too many plot
holes.
I actually watched this at work on the 26th because I was in the
hospital on the 25th and one of my coworkers brought me a box of
tissues :D.

What was cool about Amy's wig was that it was actuarial Karen's
hair. When she shaved it they turned it into a wig.

It's kind of creepy, and also how did no one figure out she was
making a DW appearance after this:
