Something that worries me about "There and Back Again"

There has been some speculation recently - and, yes, I know it's
speculation/rumors but there was a lot of that going around with
regard to where Desolation might end and ultimately it turned
out to be true, so in this case I hope it's wrong - but at any
rate, spoilers if you haven't read the book:
Apparently, Smaug is going to survive his encounter
with Bard and take part in the battle of the five armies...
which makes no sense to me whatsoever. However, if this is true,
why would PJ bother with all of that Bard's ancestor backstory
and whatnot? I don't know, but it makes me think all of this
speculation is false. What argues in favor of it though is the
fact that Desolation did, in fact, end with Smaug heading off
towards Lake Town, meaning the next movie will have to open with
his death - killing off Smaug in the opening of the movie?
Doesn't sound like something PJ would do. Besides, having Smaug
survive and take part in the battle does sound quite PJ-ish; it
fits his policy of piling excess upon excess.
At any rate, I hope this doesn't turn out to be right.

I was thinking that the opening of There and Back Again would
revolve around
Gandalf/Necromancer and some build up
to the battle of the five armies, THEN go back to Smaug and Lake
Town. That way Smaug's death wouldn't open the film. I really
can't see PJ keeping Smaug alive through his encounter with
Bard, especially, as you mentioned, he went into Bard's ancestry
and Bard dramatically pulled the last black arrow out of his
kitchen.
But if it is true, which I highly doubt, that would be the worst
thing ever.

My thoughts on the next movie:
1. It will open with a bunch of
Gandalf/Radagast/Galadriel/Necromancer stuff.
2. Smaug will die relatively quickly.
3. Battle of Five Armies.
4. Stuff leading up to LoTR.
I really wish Aragorn makes some type of appearance. Whether you
actually see Viggo Mortensen dressed up or you just hear of the
Elf's talking about him I'd like to see/hear of him. I think
that they confirmed that he wouldn't be making any type of
appearance though...A post credit scene with Gandalf instructing
Aragorn to watch over the Shire would suffice.

It would have to be set in the time between The Hobbit and LotR.
Aragorn was a child during the events of The Hobbit.

Don't forget, The Fellowship of the Ring is set 60 years after
The Hobbit and I do not think 17 years have passed between
Bilbo's 111th and Gandalf returning to The Shire. So Aragorn
would have been 27. Still too young for Viggo.
