Sony announces Venom and Sinister Six films

I'm not 100% sure how this is going to work yet. I guess it's
possible the SS movie could potentially be ASM3 and the Venom
movie could could be the ASM4 that Garfield supposedly has
"nothing to do with". Or these could be entirely separate
projects from the previously announced movies. The trailer for
ASM2 made it clear they were setting up the Six anyway, between
having Rhino and Electro (Goblin generally isn't a member of the
team, at least in any lineup I remember, then again, actually he
was. He was in the lineup that killed Peter in Ultimate
Spider-man, maybe they'll go that route) and having Vulture's
wings and Doc Ock's arms clearly displayed in the background of
one shot. But that begs the question as to whether they'll be
the villains in a Spider-man movie, then get their own spinoff,
or are they going to face Spider-man in the spinoff and the rest
of the "true" ASM movies will all be against a couple villains
each. Are they going to be the antagonists or the protagonists?
Because if they're going to be the antagonists, why is this
being called a spinoff? I think it'd just be another ASM movie.
And I don't see how they could be protagonists, even villain
protagonists. I just don't see what story they could come up
with that would sell to audiences. People go to see Spidey fight
the bad guys, not just to watch the villains be evil. I'm
assuming that Spider-man won't be in the movie if it's a
spinoff, so will they just be fighting cops? Of course, that
also leads to the question of where Spider-man is the whole time
they're wreaking havoc. Does the story end with them being
defeated or winning? I don't know if either would be
       particularly satisfying.
And then there's the Venom movie. This one makes a bit more
sense because Venom is a character that has managed to headline
his own titles for years now, albeit in different forms (Eddie
Brock, Flash Thompson, etc.). Assuming he isn't horrendously
miscast like he was in Spider-man 3, he could be a really
interesting character. The question is, are they going to
introduce him in an ASM sequel, or try and set him up in his own
film. Because, like the Six, I don't see how well he would work
in a movie without Spider-man. At least, not in his first
appearance. What I hope will happen is that he'll be a main
villain in either ASM3 or ASM4, and then he'll be given his own
movie, possibly an R-rated one where Carnage is introduced and
becomes the villain that forced Venom to become an antihero.
Because if there's anything the 90's Spidey cartoon proved, it's
that if you have to make Carnage "kid-friendly" he just gets
really boring really fast. Of course, they might want to include
Spider-man, but if they do, kids will want to see it, and the
studio won't turn down a potential hit, because lets face it,
most R-rated superhero movies flop, or at the very least,
underperform, and the movie will be PG-13.
TL;DR : You have to wonder, if these truly are spinoffs, then
will Spider-man be included at all, and if so, how much?
Historically, looking at television spinoffs, the main character
of the original work has negligible screentime if any. And I
just have no idea how well a movie about Spider-man villains
       will work without Spider-man.
