Just came back from Thor
By: Sinister Kid Date: November 7, 2013, 11:06 pm
---------------------------------------------------------
Wow. I really can't remember the last time I've been so
disappointed with something. Just an utterly pointless sequel.
Everything felt like it was copied and pasted from every other
action blockbuster of recent memory (I can't give the best
examples because it'd be spoiling a fair bit of stuff). And is
it just me, or is Thor not even a really interesting superhero
to begin with? I just really did not give a shit about anything
or anyone in this movie. And I'm positive that the writers of
this movie know that Loki would be their saving grace, so they
actually made sure not to fuck him up. And for fuck's sake, Kat
Dennings...I love her but, man, her character is so utterly
useless, and to make it worse, they give her an even MORE
useless love interest. Holy fucking shit, this movie was just
such a fucking bore and I'm really kind of angry about it.
Also, after watching the mid-credits scene, my anticipation for
Guardians of the Galaxy plummeted below ground level. Of course,
maybe it's my fault for not having any prior knowledge of what
GOTG is even made up of, style-wise.
But yeah, fuck Thor.

I literally can't disagree more. This was a fantastic sequel
that improved upon the original in every conceivable way. This
was the movie I was expecting when I saw the first one, not
spending half the movie powerless in a one-pony town in NM. This
edged out Man of Steel for my favorite CBM of 2013.

I didn't see any improvements except maybe in some action
sequences. Although, honestly, that whole attack on Asgard scene
felt like it was a deleted Star Trek sequence. On paper, alien
elves in spaceships vs. space vikings with lasers might sound
like a fanboy's wet dream come true, yet somehow, I couldn't
muster up a shit. But what I'm really wondering is what was
going on during the writing session when the three writers were
thinking "Hey, you know what would be super hilarious? An old
guy going loony and running around ass-naked through Stonehenge
and then later walking around with no pants! And you know what
else? What about after (name withheld) "dies", we make that
stupid ringtone go off! OH! And YOU KNOW WHAT ELSE?! We'll give
the most USELESS character from the first movie an expanded
role, and an EVEN MORE USELESS LOVE INTEREST!!!!! HARDY FUCKING
HAR!!!!!!!!!"
...sorry. Well, I said this elsewhere, but if I should ever
watch it again, it won't be so soon...and it won't be sober.

I don't even have any thing to counter these. This stuff just
didn't bother me at all. The Selvig thing was a minute tops and
I've never understood the Darcy hate I see on the internet.
Happy is useless in the Iron Man series and no one complains
about him, but Darcy fills the same role here and people lose
their minds. It's not like she had a ton of screentime either.

Eh. I dunno. I was probably in just a shit mood that day. Had to
go into the city (WHICH I HATE) for casting my film and it
didn't go as planned, along with other cock-ups. Maybe I was
looking for excuses to be pissed. Still, I did leave that
theater unsatisfied. As for Happy, you're right, he is useless,
though I never really seemed to pay him any mind. Then again, I
probably never was interested in Thor to begin with. I'm still
really excited for Captain America though.

I enjoyed it but to be honest if Hiddleston hadn't come back I
wouldn't have given a shit. Hemsworth and Portman are pretty to
look at but just incredibly goddamn dull. And am I crazy or was
it basically just a basic rehash of The Avengers plot, more or
less? Armies coming out of portals and destroying a major city
and yada yada yada. Like by the end I had no goddamn clue what
Selvig and Jane were even trying to do to close/destroy/whatever
the black smoke goo thing. At that point I had basically checked
out and was just waiting to see how and when Loki would come
back.

I enjoyed it more than the first one. I would rank it alongside
MOS as the second best comic-book movie this year after IM 3.

I will say this,
Frigga's Funeral was so beautifully
shot, one of my favorite role and the film and I wanted more
Rene Russo.
The funeral scene reminded me of HP. Like a mix between the end
of HBP and when the death eaters all cast spells at Hogwarts in
DH2.
I personally dont respond strongly to many comic book movies.
They're just not my cup of tea. At least not Marvel ones. I
enjoyed Thor 2 well enough. I did think some of it was quite
generic, but the funny moments got a laugh out of me, and Loki
is always a fan favorite, as was the cameo. The villain was meh.
The exposition was meh. The performances (minus Hiddleston) were
meh. The ridiculous elves with bazookas were...absurd. And too
much CGI really bothers me (which I realize is a problem in
2013). But thats almost always my general problems with comic
book movies. That being said it was better than the first one
and an enjoyable enough movie. I got what I wanted out of it.
But keep in mind I haven't seen IM3 (or 2 for that matter). So
that might skew my basis of comparison.
