I say that because I don't really like him. Mostly because of
all the fangirls who swoon over him, and I just don't get it...

Well the fangirls (of anyone/anything) are always annoying (as
are fanboys) so I just ignore them.
I like Cumberbatch though. He's grown on me. I thought he was
very good in Star Trek Into Darkness playing a badly written
character.

I think he does an amazing job as Sherlock Homes, but I haven't
seen him in anything else. Is he consistently good at his roles?
There are a few guest roles that they could put him in so it
doesn't interrupt his other projects.

Yeah he's excellent as Sherlock Holmes and as I said he shows
his talent in Into Darkness playing a badly written character.
Outside of this, I've only seen him in "War Horse" and "Tinker
Tailor Soldier Spy" and he's decent in both (although, actually,
he doesn't have a whole lot to do in Tinker Tailor).
I really need to watch more of his stuff. I hear this
mini-series "Parade's End" is very good and he's very good in
it. I have no interest in "The Fifth Estate" (the Julian Assange
pic) but I may just watch it out of curiosity for Cumberbatch.

HBO is too cheap to hire him. The secret to HBO's success is
they are willing to spend money on sets, props and FX is they
would hire cheap but talented actors. That is why you get big
productions such as Band of Brothers, The Pacific, Deadwood,
Rome, Game of Thrones and Boardwalk Empire.
