Kick Ass 2

I thought it was awesome. I think it was a great follow up to
Kick Ass. Even though it was childish, immature and violent, it
was prob the most fun I've had at the theater all summer.

I liked it but I had some problems with it. The main thing I
didn't like was when it would go past over the top with it's
humor, hammering on the satirical aspect, like the slumber party
scene. I didn't read the Hit-Girl graphic novel but apparently,
all of those interactions between Mindy and the high school
bitches happened similarly in there, but after hearing them
exhaust every ditzy high school girl cliche or taking jabs
(asking about giving blow jobs/rim jobs/finger-banging or the
bath salts joke), it got old fast. Same goes for that
masturbation joke in the beginning. Additionally, the scene with
the "sick stick" was...not even the least bit necessary. Also I
can't decide if Christopher Mintz-Plasse was ever the right
choice to play someone who would eventually descend into
villainy. He fits the bill for moments like donning the
ridiculous S&M gear and then having erectile dysfunction later
for you-know-what, but otherwise, I can't take him seriously
when he tries to really be a ruthless supervillain. I did think
the action scenes were pretty awesome, in line with the first
movie's scenes (although this movie didn't have a bazooka). My
favorites were the part with Mother Russia and the cops, and
then Mindy rescuing Dave from the villains.

Apparently The Motherfucker was supposed to die at the end of
the comic, but Mark Millar liked Chris' performance so much he
kept him alive for KA3.
But didn't the motherfucker die at the end? In the
shark tank? Is he going to be missing limbs in the third? Which,
by the way, I really dont think we need.
I also never read these comics. I realize the rape scene
actually is a rape scene in the books while the movie tried
making a joke out of it...a joke that didn't really land. It was
more uncomfortable than funny to me.
I didn't mind the mean girls plot line. The sick stick was
unnecessary but everything else was pretty fine. Felt like just
a taste of the Carrie remake we're getting in the fall.
But overall I didn't love this movie. I thought it was okay. I
go into most comic book movies, especially sequels, with low
expectations. It definitely met those. Its just a shame because
I really enjoyed the first movie. But yeah, I saw someone say
something like, "Kick Ass 2 felt like the wet dream of someone
who saw the first movie and loved it for all the wrong reasons."
Which I really agree with.

Apparently Iain Glen has an extremely short role/cameo in this?

I haven't seen the movie yet, so I can't comment on The
Motherfucker's fate or the length of Iain Glen's role, but if
they follow KA3's book for that movie (assuming they make KA3),
then it looks like he's being set up to be the main villain
there.
I guess they changed the role of the shark, which
upsets me because that was probably my favorite joke. The
Motherfucker wanted a shark tank in his secret lair, but didn't
put the right water in the tank and the shark kinda just laid
there and died. I always liked the "incompetent villain" jokes
likely because they were just about the only funny parts of the
excessively brutal book.
The problem with this movie seems to that in the process of
"Hollywoodizing" KA2 like they did the first one, they seem to
have neutered it more than anything. It's largely a problem with
the book, which just had way too many bad taste moments for
shock value, like The Motherfucker shooting a bunch of kids for
no reason, raping Katie, and the whole Game of Thrones bit with
the Colonel, that the book didn't have much room to be funny
once the shit hit the fan and after neutering it as much as they
had to to make it acceptable for general audiences, there
probably isn't much left.

So now having seen the movie, I pretty much stand by what I
thought. The book was just so overwhelmingly dark that trying to
"Hollywoodize" it and make it more consistent with the tone of
the first film made the film extremely inconsistent as far as
the tone. I like the movie and hope we get a Kick-Ass 3,
especially since I want to see how the changes they made to the
ending will play out, but the first one was better. Still
doesn't deserve the 28% it has on RT by a long shot.

I really enjoyed it. I didn't think it was groundbreaking but I
thought it was a pretty good sequel. My only major problem was
with Iain Glenn's godawful accent!
Is KA3 confirmed? Because it really felt to me like they were
making sure there wouldn't be a sequel.

The movie isn't confirmed and probably won't be unless this does
well on DVD, but 2 issues of the comic have been released and it
looks like Iain Glen's character will end up being the main
villain.

I kinda liked the first movie. It was good by CBM standards but
nothing great. I'll be watching this one over the weekend.
