Anyone else think Renly would have made a terrible king?

Sure people loved him, but he wouldn't last very long. Being
loved and not feared (like his brother Robert) just means that
the Lords will take advantage of him. Especially the Tyrells who
would be controlling everything. Soon as he is able to father a
son he would have been bumped off.

He was too vain. I think he liked the idea of being king, and
all the perks of the job, but I don't think he would've made a
good ruler at all.

You have all these internet fools who are of course born and
raised in democracies when loving a leader means something. In
monarchies the best rulers are often the most feared. It
doesn't help the show's creators champion Renly before season
two aired.
He would have been a worse king than Robert. Stannis at least
would have taken the time to hunt down the traitors. He wouldn't
have been a loved king but he would have been an effective
ruler. All he has to do is make new lords. Renly just sat around
with around 100,000 men waiting for the Starks and Lannisters to
kill each other off.

Well to be fair, waiting for the Starks and Lannisters to kill
each other off is an intelligent strategy, no matter how big
your army is lol.

I don't think Renly would have been a great King, but he
wouldn't be the worst.

I heart Renly.
I think he had the brains to be a better king than Robert at the
least, but maybe not the brawn to enforce any authoritative
power across the entire kingdom.

He is easily a better option in comparison to Joffrey, Robert
and Dany.

Not when the larger part of your army is your father in law and
that father's mother is Lady Olenna. Soon as Renly's son is born
he would have been history and with Stannis and the fake
Baratheon's out of the way, the Tyrells will get the Stormlands.
The Tyrells are basically the Lannisters with flowers. They want
to rule Westeroes but with shedding little as their blood as
possible.
He definitley would have been better than Joffery, but not sure
if he'd be better than Robert. If truth be told, Rhaegar should
not have died on the Trident, many characters believed he would
have been a great king. Or if Robert dies as well, the throne
would pass to Stannis, Tywin Lannister and Mace would have been
either in Essos or dead.

I don't remember Renly's army being comprised in largest part of
Tyrell banner-men. If that were the case, Stannis would not
have acquired such a formidable force when his shadow son thing
killed Renly. Not to mention you have provided little facts to
verify your analysis of what would have happened had Renly lived
and had an heir. You are also forgetting the obvious difficulty
Renly was having making an heir with his bride...

Stannis only acquired a fraction of Renly's forces, which were
mainly Baratheon bannermen. I think in the book Renly had around
80,000 men. 60,000 stayed at Bitterbridge and were later joined
by Tywin's force of 20,000. Stannis at his greatest was no more
than 20,000 men.
It is mere speculation. Renly may have had troubled producing an
heir, but that is nothing new in monarchy. They would have found
a way for Renly to impregnant Margaery.
