I'm happy with all the Life of Pi love

Didn't really think it would get so many nominations. I'd be
perfectly happy with either this film or Lincoln winning in most
of the major categories.
Yet to see ZD30 and Argo.

I'm still waiting to see most of the major nominations but
Lincoln is the one I'm looking forward to the most.
I saw Life of Pi in beginning of December and I really liked it
so I'm happy that it got some nominations.

I've really wanted to see Life of Pi for a long time and have
yet to. No one I know seems to want to see it with me, except
for my husband but he can't do the 3D thing and it's hard to
find non-3D screenings at times we can make. So I've resolved to
go see it by myself soon, maybe today.

Yes, I saw it and I really enjoyed it. Absolutely beautiful.
There were times I was teary-eyed just because of how visually
stunning everything looked.
I feel like a lot of people are being extremely narrow-minded
about the end.

Nice.
But what exactly are you referring to here? Regarding the
ending... I haven't really come across many criticisms.

On the IMDB board, there are loads of posts like this:
'Which ending do you prefer' is a cop out
I mean of course I prefer the tiger story, who wouldn't ? But as
to what really happened, then I really believe the second story.
Like I would prefer to believe in Santa, the tooth fairy, the
afterlife and all that stuff, a lot nicer than what reality is.
So for me this film basically says that faith/religion is a load
of sentimental nonsense, just believe in what you "prefer"
instead of the actual truth.
But I don't think that's what the film says. It says that you
can't actually prove which story is real or not because Pi was
the only survivor. But a lot of people are taking it as the
first story is equal to belief in God and not true, and the
second story is equal to no God and reality. The choice isn't
between what is preferable and what is true; it's between what
is preferable when there are no absolute truths.

Yeah, I agree. I thought that much was pretty obvious actually.
What's more interesting to me from a thematic standpoint is the
role of the tiger in this story and what he signifies.
