I watched "Lincoln"

I can't be arsed doing a detailed review now (maybe later) but I
thought it was great. I'd give it 9/10.

I feel like I admired the movie more than I liked it...if that
makes sense.
I just felt like I was watching the History Channel or sitting
in a Social Studies class (which are two things I tend to really
enjoy). It felt too technical to me. Even though I thought it
was VERY interesting and very well acted/directed (obviously).
I just didnt respond to it as much as say, Argo.

I felt that way about "Amistad" actually, but not this film. I
found it absorbing, and when it was over, I wanted to see more.

I put up a thread on IMDb here

regarding
Spielberg for those who care to read it.

I keep unintentionally using Argo as a litmus test for this
year's movies. I thought Lincoln was very well acted, especially
by Daniel Day Lewis and the subject matter is very interesting
but it's not a biopic (which I feel like it was advertised as)
and I think as interesting as the movie was it didn't meet my
expectations. I'd give it a 7/10. The movie really excelled
during the House debates but it did feel like a high production
history channel special, so I agree with Dana.
Back to the Argo comment, that movie was electric. The last 20
minutes had me gripping my arm rest and holding my breathe even
though I knew the ending. I just don't think that any other
movie has really captured my emotions this year the way Argo
did, it elicited a physical reaction so that's really saying
something. I feel like I'm being negative about a lot of the
movies I've seen lately but that's so not the case, I just keep
going back to Argo.

Still haven't seen Argo. Ben Affleck is a good director though I
wasn't quite impressed with his last effort "The Town," so we'll
see.

Have you seen Amistad, Dayna?

In 10th Grade US History :D
I liked it, but I liked Lincoln more, granted I haven't seen
Amistad in about eight years.
You should try to catch Argo, it was great. I'm looking forward
to Zero Dark Thirty though, that might blow Argo out of my #1
spot. Other than that I want to see Silver Linings Playbook,
Django Unchained, and Anna Karenina (even though everyone says
it was awful).

I missed Argo while it was in theaters here so now I'm gonna
have to wait for the DVD.
I have zero interest in ZD30 but I do want to watch Django
Unchained. I also want to watch CZ12 and Jack Reacher (both have
just been released in theaters here) so I'll try and catch at
least one of those movies in theaters this week. Oh, CZ12 has
been getting terrible reviews with the main complaint being
"it's not the same as Jackie's 80s films." Well, no shit, huh?
No interest in Anna Karenina either, but Silver Linings Playbook
does look kinda interesting - well, mostly 'cause I liked
Jennifer Lawrence in "Winter's Bone" and haven't seen her in any
movie since so I'd like to watch this one as I hear her
performance in it is great. I may watch it someday.
I had downloaded Michael Haneke's "Amour" a couple of weeks back
and still haven't gotten around to watching it.
There are a few other 2012 films I want to watch but not because
I'm interested in them, more because they're just being praised
a lot and I wanna see what the big deal is - stuff like "Beasts
of the Southern Wild," "Moonrise Kingdom," "The Master," and who
knows, I may even watch ZD30 once it's out on DVD.

They showed Amistad to 10th grade students? Isn't that movie
rated R or something? Then again, I think they did used to show
Schindler's List to a lot of students so I guess this isn't
really surprising.
