The Power Of Three

I liked it :) lots of really good moments, quite a cool and
sinister enemy, yet very different.
My only issue is it felt like it was resolved really quickly,
which I guess is the problem when you try to make each episode a
'mini-movie' like they have this series.
I liked the return of UNIT, the guys with the weird mouths were
scary, and there were lots of great Pond moments. I was going
'no no no!!' when Brian tells them to go away with the Doctor
and have fun because of what I'm guessing might happen next
episode.
But yeah, good episode :)

I liked it.
Incidentally, Kate Stewart, the head of UNIT in the episode, is
the daughter of Brigadier Lethbridge-Stewart.

Meh, I thought it was kind of lackluster for the penultimate
episode. I thought the build of the goodbye Ponds stuff was
totally disjointed from the slow invasion story line. I'm pretty
out of it though so I want to watch it when I feel better to see
if I like it more.
I do think that the Henry VIII scene supports the theory that
the Doctor is all over the place in the Ponds timeline.

I have seen a lot of praise for the last few episodes. But
honestly, aside from Asylum of the Daleks, I've been kind of
bored with the last few episodes.
For this episode, it hooked me. I loved the concept. But in true
Moffat style, we got a rushed disappointing deus ex machina
ending. Most of the episode was buildup about the cubes, which
was entertaining. Then oh, he pulled out his sonic screwdriver,
pointed at a console and everything is right again.
A lot of stuff was left unexplained. Those nurses with thouse
weird mouth things that were kidnapping people? Also Amy and the
Doctor show up at the hospital, but aren't looking for Rory.
Also, the lack of sympathy or interest from the Doctor, Amy, and
Rory when they comically ran out of the ship, leaving the ship,
and all of the occupants to their deaths, kind of bugged me.
It's so unlike the Doctor.
Also, everyone goes into cardiac arrest. But the Doctor waves
his screwdriver and wham, everything is fine. This irks me a bit
because of the line the 9th Doctor had in the 1st series ("Just
this once, everybody lives!"). I felt like a lot of power from
that line is lost now. So yeah, I am a bit disappointed with how
Moffat has handled the past seasons (I know this is an unpopular
opinion as I know many people who prefer the Moffat era over
S1-S4, which I don't agree with. But that's a discussion for
another time). As for the cheesy Amy voiceover?
Some great concepts and buildup - little payoff and/or lame
resolve.
Alright, enough of my whining.
What I do like about the past episodes is how they are setting
up
the Ponds departure from the show.
I know
I was complaining about plots awhile ago. With all that I said,
I think the character development between Doctor, Amy, and Rory
has been huge reason why the plots have been, IMO, a bit
lacking. The "monster of the week" plots have kind of taken a
backseat. Mainly because they aren't supposed to be the focus to
begin with. I feel like the focus has been placed more on the
Doctor's relationship with Amy and Rory, and how Amy and Rory's
"other" life is affecting him. The plots and "monsters" are
simply a backdrop to demonstrate their relationship.
And, MAJOR SPECULATION/SPOILERS AHEAD...
As Dayna said, these episodes and the mention of King Henry the
8th kind of supports the fact that the Doctor is jumping all
around the Ponds' timeline. Next week is their departure episode
(if I remember correctly). I think the Doctor knows that his
time with the Ponds is limited. And that's why he's so adamant
about spending time with them now. I think he already knows
their fate ("I'm trying to stop you fading from my memory").
Also, Amy's voiceover reminds me of (MAJOR SPOILERS FOR S2 -
mainly for Dayna's benefit, since you've probably hasn't seen it
yet...)
Rose's voiceover in the 2 parter episode leading up to
her "departure". Maybe foreshadowing something bad happening to
Amy? The circumstances regarding their last episode is supposed
to be "heartbreaking", according to the spoiler's we've heard
about that episode.
This season so far, as meh as I've been toward it regarding the
monster plots and stuff, is not really about the monsters. But
about the Doctor and the impending end to the Ponds.
Sorry for the rambling. I kind of threw up all of my thoughts
onto the screen. I could go on and on, but I won't.

No spoilers necessary - caught up fully ;).
Besides the Henry VIII clue, you've also got the literal
interpretation of the Doctor's line "I'm running to you and Rory
before you fade away." - I think that supports that he's
travelling backwards a bit. Regardless we'll know next Saturday
and I think knowing the order of things will make a lot more
sense.
If I had to rank the fall season I'd say:
- A Town Called Mercy
- Asylum of the Daleks
- The Slow Invasion
- Dinosaurs on a Spaceship
I agree, the slow invasion plot felt a bit loose because we
needed AMY/RORY/DOCTOR build up before next week, BUT, I'd say
both the episodic plots and the Amy/Rory/Doctor plots have been
lacking throughout the whole season because there isn't a major
arc right now.

At first I was gonna say 'damn you've already caught up??' Then
I remembered that I watched all of the available episodes over
the course of a week.
Yeah, there isn't a major arc tying the episode together like
the last 2 seasons (like the crack in the universe and the
Silence). Probably because there's no point since Amy and Rory
are leaving. So it makes the storytelling seem sloppy and all
over the place. And as disappointed as I am with the plots, I am
also aware that some good character development was needed. And
this one was kind of a biggie. And the cube plot gave the Doctor
a reason to stay behind with them for awhile, with some bonus
comedic scenes.
Oh, I forgot to mention, I think eggs and Christmas have both
been mentioned in some form in evey episode so far this season.
I thought that could be an interesting clue that there's
something tying all the episodes together in some way.
Also, I think Moffat has said there won't be any two parter
episodes this season, very unlike the last few seasons. So I
doubt there will be an major arc this season.

Also, check out this Reddit thread and the comments with several
other clues about the Doctor being out of order in their
timeline:

I'd write them out myself but I'm on my phone. A lot of good
stuff in there.

...yeah they said that like four or five times in the episode
haha.

I totally agree. I really liked the hook in to this episode but,
like I said, it was resolved a lot to quickly.
I've not been as fond of this season compared to previous - the
episodes are still good, but, I think I've said before on here,
they're just not as epic as I'd come to expect from Who.
Hopefully next week's will be better though - Ponds leaving,
Angels, River (though depending who's writing her depends on
whether River's great or terrible)

OH and the the voiceover thing, yeah Rose did that, and also
Amy's second episode started with her doing a voiceover too,
when she talks about running away with her imaginary friend or
whatever she says (haven't watched it for a while but it's
something like that) so it's closing their story the way it
opened I guess.

These last few episodes have been refreshing because there's no
huge story arc like Cracks in the Universe and The Silence. I
got tired of "Silence will fall" and the emphasis on "Doc-TOR!"
These last few episodes are basically a send off of Amy and
Rory.
