When should Dumbledore have told Harry?

At the end of SS, Harry asks Dumbledore why Voldemort tried to
kill him as a baby, to which Dumbledore replies:
"Alas, the first thing you ask me, I cannot tell you. Not Today.
Not now. You will know, one day ... put it from your mind for
now, Harry. When you are older... I know you hate to hear this
... when you are ready, you will know."
Now, we know in OotP that Dumbledore regrets not telling Harry
about the Prophecy until he was 15. When do you think Dumbledore
should have told Harry? Could he have handled knowing something
like that just when he was 11? If not, when would have been the
best time? I tend to think that Harry was too young at this
point, especially since he just found out he was a wizard less
than a year before. But I'm not sure when would have been the
best time before OotP.
Any ideas?

There were opportunities in each book to bring up the
conversation
CoS - the destruction of the diary and how Riddle managed to
create something with a piece of himself inside it would have
been a decent enough of opening for the Harry and Voldemort
connection, although I see why it might have been bad to do it
then if Dumbledore suspected that Harry was a horcrux.
PoA - Trelawney's second prophecy is pretty much a perfect lead
in to, "oh b-t-dubs Harry she made a prophecy before, let me
tell you about it".
GoF - In my opinion this was the last acceptable moment to let
Harry know the connection he and Voldemort had. The guy
kidnapped him to a graveyard and killed Edward Cullen in front
of him. That's traumatic and Harry deserved to know why
Voldemort had regenerated with the express purpose of killing
him. The events in the graveyard are the catalyst for Harry
seeing the thestrals and grappling with the concept of
mortality, it might have been harsh to pile the prophecy on at
that point but he was old enough to know.
So I think he should have told him at the end of POA or at the
very least the end of GOF. It was way too late to tell Harry in
OOTP and I think you can indirectly blame Sirius' death on
Dumbledore's coddling of Harry. I'd think if Harry knew the
prophecy, and therefor knew what was in the Department of
Mysteries (Voldemort's secret weapon) he would have been less
open to being inceptioned.

The end of PoA, at the age of 13 going on 14 probably would have
been the best time. Not only because he mentioned Trelawney only
making one other true prophecy, but because its a more mature
age than 11, its important information for this kid to have, and
nothing TOO dramatic happened the end of his third year that it
would have felt like, "piling on". Yeah he spent the whole
school year thinking a mass murderer was after him, but he
handled it pretty well considering. I think everything he did
his third year showed enough maturity for him to be told the
truth. And like Dayna said, it was an easy/obvious thing to
bring up...

I think after the graveyard scene. Harry had actually been
through hell and he deserved to know about it. Dumbledore should
have also told him that he can no longer have normal
conversation with Harry due to him getting possessed by Voldy
which would have explained his aloofness in OOTP.

Definitely after the graveyard scene... Voldemort's return... it
would have been bad news on top of bad news, but at least it
would have been a better bad news on bad news than telling it
after Sirius' death. Order of the Phoenix would have been
completely different if that happened.

I think at the end of PoA, after Pettigrew escapes. That
probably sent up red flags for Dumbledore, and, even though he
didn't know Voldemort was going to return the next year, it was
probably a good idea to give Harry a heads up on what could
happen.

Harry should have definitely been told after coming out of the
graveyard in GoF. Voldemort being back meant that Harry was in
graver danger due that connection. It was unfair that Harry had
to spend his 5th year feeling like he was going mad. Dumbledore
could have even told him after Mr. Weasley was admitted into St.
Mungo's.
