'The Hobbit' officially 3 films.

Jackson better know what he's doing. I know he's adding stuff
that didn't happen explicitly in the book, but he's still making
three movies from a book that's shorter than any of the LotR
books.
Also, does this rule out extended cuts?

Well...yeah I don't know how I feel about this. I'll just have
to wait and see how they go, if they are even close to the
greatness of the LOTR trilogy I'll be happy, but I don't know
how much stuff they can stretch out of all the Appendices to get
3 massive movies.
Right now I'm thinking he should have just made massive extended
cuts of the two films when they're released on DVD/Blu-ray, but
I'll wait until more information is given.

Um.
I still think it could've easily just been one
three-and-a-half-hour movie.
*ducks*

Haha you don't need to duck, I completely agree with you. It
would have made a great 3 and a half hour, epic fantasy
adventure story. Now I'm just worried it's going to be an
overindulgent bloated mess of a 'trilogy'.
I'm trying to stay optimistic because I love the first three,
but I'm pretty nervous about how these will turn out.

What could have been one 3 hr movie? I dunno but it's Jackson
and I think he knows what he's doing though I really don't
understand why the studio increased the budget to accommodate
one more film especially since MGM was doing so badly some time
back.

Um, The Hobbit? What other movie are we talking about? :P
Considering it's basically a children's story that has less
moving action than other the Lord of the Rings trilogy, which
incidentally WERE made into three three-hour-ish movies.

Yes Kelsey, I know we're talking about the Hobbit. I was merely
remarking on the fact that the story is being split into three
parts what could have been a single 3 hr movie. Nevermind the
question mark, my cell's keypad is fucked up.

I'm sorry, I had no way of knowing that.

He's a greedy bastard.
You know, I'm all for embellishment of the book, and even
additions of events which happened off-screen....
but it could still all be done in about 3 hours. The appendixes
give us, what? The White Council and Dol Guldor? So, a meeting
and a battle scene. Bleh, he's just desperately trying to
recreate LOTR. I'm not optimistic about the quality of these
films.

If this allows for more Viggo Mortensen as Aragorn than I am
okay with it. It would be awesome if he brought the Hobbit
movies all the way up to Lord of The Rings. I agree that The
Hobbit could have been one movie, but if he films everything
that leads up to Lord of The Rings than it definitely needs to
be more than one.
