Possible error in Extended FotR

Is it just me, or does Boromir go from know knowing who Aragorn
is to suddenly knowing who he is in the "shards of Narsil"
scene, then again to not knowing who he is then learning his
identity in the Council scene? It's probably just me, but I
can't think up a reason he'd look at Aragorn, unceremoniously
drop/throw down the sword hilt, and say "It's just a broken
heirloom" if he didn't know who Aragorn was.

Actually this thing bugged me as well, the way he looks at
Aragorn after saying 'Nothing more than a broken heirloom'
implies that he knew of Aragorn's heritage although in the later
Council of Elrond's scene, he acts as if he just came to know
about it.
I guess, he just thought of Aragorn as another Dunedain ranger
(who were mostly descended from the Numenors) and was basically
insulting his ancestry (of being a Numenorean). It was only in
the council scene that he actually realised that Aragorn is
Isildur's heir.
Although this is pure guess, and I'm not that well versed with
Tolkien mythology.
