I'm really into Batman at the moment
By: Aussie50 Date: June 30, 2012, 8:20 am
---------------------------------------------------------
I've never been a massive Batman fan, but I really wanted to
rewatch the two Nolan Batman films to see if I still thought
they were overrated, and after watching them I'm really into
Batman all of a sudden.
I watched Batman Begins last night, then today I watched The
Dark Knight, before going out and buying Batman Arkham Asylum
(it was $23 which I thought was a pretty great deal) which I've
been playing for a couple of hours now, and as expected it's
pretty awesome (I'm excited to get Arkham City after I finish
it).
I enjoyed Batman Begins much more than The Dark Knight (which I
still think is overrated) but I at least can finally agree with
the general consensus that they are both really great films.
Although I still don't like Christian Bale's Batman/Bruce Wayne,
but he's tolerable at least.
I think I'll watch the Burton Batman's next, and then maybe the
one with Jim Carrey as the Riddler, but I'll steer clear of
Batman and Robin until I'm ready to not watch Batman for a
while.
Can you recommend any good animated Batman's to watch, TV series
or movies I don't really mind.

I've always like Batman, but I actually only really started
getting into it this summer.
I like watching the old films as well as the Nolan films. The
old ones are obviously not that amazing, but they are still
enjoyable for me to watch.
I actually prefer Batman Begins to The Dark Knight as well. I am
a fan of Ra's Al Ghul and the League of Assassins. I really hope
we see Talia in the next film.
The Batman videogames are pretty sweet. The Lego ones are fun
and include a lot of the characters in the Batman Universe. My
favorite videogame would probably be Arkham City. I really liked
Arkham Asylum, but one part was just kinda like wtf? You will
understand when you get to it.
I haven't watched many of the animated movies, but Batman Under
The Red Hood was pretty good...although I was really drunk when
I watched it so do some research first.

The Arkham games are really great games. Not just great Batman
games, but great games period which is unusual.
You should watch Batman The Animated Series. Mark Hamill is
easily the best Joker ever.
And Batman: Mask of the Phantasm, which is awesome. It's one of
the best Batman movies ever.
And I agree, I preferred Begins to TDK.

too

OK so as a hardcore Batfan for over 15 years, I'm glad you got
into it now especially with TDKR releasing.
If you wanna be up to date with the whole mythos, first things
first, rent the complete seasons of Batman the animated series.
They were my and every kid who grew up in 90s first introduction
to the character.
After that since you've already seen the Nolan films, try
watching the Tim Burton ones which are pretty good themselves
though not on the same level. You can also try the animated ones
like Mask of Phantasm, SubZero, Under the red hood. Don't touch
Batman Beyond yet as that might confuse you.
Once you've done that, play both the Arkham games (Asylum and
City) and if you get time, try reading a few graphic novels e.g.
Year one, Long Halloween, Killing Joke, Dark Knigt returns etc.
I guess that with all of that, you will have sufficient
Batknowledge. If you are still interested you can immerse
yourself into Batman Beyond and the animated Justice League.

Nothing to really add here. Rent or buy the Bruce Timm/Paul Dini
90's Batman Series, read the Frank Miller Batman books(Except
DK2 and All Star Batman and Robin), and watch the Burton ones
and you should be set. You might also want to watch a few of the
episodes of the Adam West series. I haven't played videogames in
years so I can't comment on the Arkham Games but obviously
they're supposed to be good.
I used to prefer Begins over TDK as well but I can't do it
anymore. The editing in the movie is just so terrible it
distracts me in every scene now. Also everything involving the
Scarecrow is just dogshit. I like Cillian Murphy but he was so
miscast here.

I'm interested to see if Batman Returns holds up as my favourite
Batman film, I haven't seen it in a while. I'll check out the
90s series, I love 90s cartoons.
What I like about Arkham Asylum is that it gives me the
background on these key Batman villains from the comics, I never
knew Harley Quinn's backstory so that was cool to read about, I
also enjoy the patient tapes.

So my sudden Batman obsession is surprisingly still going fairly
strong. I expected it to burn out within a few days which is
what usually happens when I get really into things.
I've rewatched all the old movies, finished Arkham Asylum and
have nearly finished Arkham City (which is fast becoming one of
my favourite games).
Ive also nearly finished Season 1 of the Batman Animated Series
from the 90s that a few of you recommended. The show is really
good, I liked that it's actually pretty dark and mature and it
explores some pretty dark issues for a kids show.
I'm really excited to see The Dark Knight Rises this week
sometime, even though I accidentally spoiled the ending for
myself :/

Did you "pay your respects" in Arkham City? Only time a video
game ever made me tear up a bit.

That is one of the best achievements ever. I perfected the
campaign part of the game(got every riddler challenge and
completed every side quest), but the Challenge Maps got boring
and I stopped playing them.
I am going to start a new file strictly to get the 'Playing
Catch' achievement where you throw your Batarang at Azrael.
