Where should I start? I know there is an older series, should I

You can. Good luck if you want to watch the entire thing,
because there's, like, 30 seasons, but starting with the 2005
series is fine.

Is the 2005 series a complete reboot? Or does it continue things
where they left off?

It continues things. The first episode the current Doctor is in
actually has a quick montage of all 11 Doctors. Everything you
really need to know is conveyed in the new show. There's nothing
you really need to know besides he travels through time and
space, is a member of a race known as Time Lords, and they
regenerate when they die.

I would start with the first Doctor of the new series. I did and
felt I was not really missing out on anything from the old
series. When I have time I will go back.
