It deserves it, I didn't expect to like it as much as I did, but
after seeing it I can see why it's getting so much love. It's
easily the best superhero film I've seen.
It did everything I wanted it to and most importantly it didn't
take itself too seriously (ie. The Dark Knight, not that that's
not good for what it does), it made watching all the previous
Marvel build-up films worth it.

I just wish a record could last longer. All this constant record
breaking and reshuffling really weakens the achievement that is
a "record". Pretty soon I'm going to stop being impressed. I've
kind of stopped caring already.

Yeah I know what you mean.
Isn't the increased price of tickets making it easier for films
to hit the billion $ mark, so it's sort of unfair to compare the
amount of money these new blockbusters are making, and of course
3D is bringing in millions more than usual.

I agree that Avengers was damn good fun and is definitely on the
of the best superhero movies ever made. However, I feel that TDK
is much better than it because it actually transcended the genre
and became something of a cultural and philosophical icon. Kinda
like our generation's Godfather. Avengers is at the end of the
day, an escapist movie where you sit back and forget everything
else for 2 hours. TDK however was grounded in reality and
touched many themes that we face in the real world making it all
the more relevant.
Ultimately, which film you prefer is solely based on personal
opinion but there's no denying the fact that TDK is the better
film while Avengers is the better movie.

That's a really great way of stating it.
I personally enjoyed Avenger's more than TDK, but I can
definitely agree with everything that you said. I think I need
to watch TDK again, I remember being underwhelmed last time I
saw it, I think I'll enjoy it more now.

Unfortunately box office records say little about quality. I
really can't stand Avatar...yet there it is...number one movie
of all time....
And I'd agree that TDK is better than The Avengers. But they're
two totally different types of movies (albiet comic book
movies). One is dark and serious yet amusing and the other is
fun and emotional, but mostly pure escapism. I really like both
though. And I rarely enjoy comic book films.
And I think I read somewhere that adjusted for inflation The
Avengers actually comes in at 37th or something.
