       Rape in the Hunger Games?

I know this is a dark topic, and would never have appeared in
the books, but realistically do you think rape was ever an issue
between the contestants in any of the games?
I'm wondering if the Game makers would have intervened to
prevent it from happening, because I'm pretty sure even the
Capital people would take issue to something like that
happening, particularly if the people involved were favourites.
Although, they are all pretty bloodthirsty and psychotic so they
could turn it into a story of revenge and think it "makes a good
       show".
Have any of you seen 'The Condemned' I watched it a while ago
and it's essentially The Hunger Games only it's set in present
time and instead of kids they use Death Row convicts and its
broadcast on the Internet. There's a rape scene in that which
made me think about this topic.

First off, hypothetically if there was rape in the arena the
gamekeepers would simply edit it out, much like they did Rue's
burial by not showing those contestants at that time.
Alternatively who knows ... that might have entertained people
who also like to watch children being violently murdered, and
I'm sure the brutality of it would sway opinion about the
agressor and victim. The gamekeepers were known to use their
powers to destroy any tribute they wanted to. Katniss mentions
one tribute who would eat the people he killed and because of
this the public hated him, and the gamekeepers had an avalanche
kill him to prevent him from winning the games. They're making a
television show, whatever suits their needs would happen.
On the other hand why would a contestant bother raping another
tribute? Even the most brutal of tributes would probably view
that as a waste of time and energy. You'd have to be a complete
       sociopath to do that.
I don't think the book ignores the subject of rape though...
while it didn't mention any incidents in the arena we do know
that Finnick was used against his will for Capitol citizens
willing to pay for him. That is still rape.

I agree they'd probably edit it out if it occurred, unless they
could use it in some way to gain or lose favor of the
       contestants involved.
Say it happened to Katniss for example, would they edit that out
or use it to strengthen her support, it would probably be
       dangerous either way.

I don't know, the Games are known to change people and fuck with
their minds, and I think when people are stripped of everything
but their basic instincts something like this happening wouldn't
       be too far-fetched.
About Finnick, I thought that was a pretty mature thing that
Collins touched on in the books and I suppose it was rape, I
didn't label it rape in my mind though, just forced whoring,
which is essentially just another word for rape I guess but my
       mind doesn't make those connections.

I wondered about that as well. I do think it's a possibility for
that to have happened in the arena, especially if a contestant
is a sociopath and uses it as a powerplay, in a sick messed up
way. But like already pointed out, that leaves yourself
extremely vulnerable to be killed as well.
I don't necessarily agree that the Capitol would edit it out.
Yes, this is an extremely dark topic, and rape does seem to
conjure up more negative responses than death would. However,
this is a government who makes their citizens watch their own
kids get murdered in any way possible. Showing that, in a fucked
up sadistic way, is another (and even more horrible) way of the
Capitol to say "look what we can do to your kids and you can't
do anything about it". Rape, IMO, is a much more dehumanizing
       act than murder.
I don't know. I can see how showing it could incite rebellions
and riots even more than just merely murdering your tributes, so
that is a reason why the Capitol would edit it out.
I think Collins intentionally shied away from this topic on
purpose for this exact reason. Also the fact that rape is a much
       darker topic than murder, IMO.
