What would have happened if Katniss and Peeta had eaten the berr
ies?

Assuming they both died before the Capitol could heal them, what
do you think would have been the aftermath of this?
Do you think it would have caused immediate uprisings and
rebellions, essentially fast-tracking what I assume the last
book will cover (I'm half-way through the second book and
they're just heading to the Capitol again)?

I have often wondered that myself. I think just as you said the
repercussions would have been almost immediate. President Snow
seems to think that her pulling out the berries and yet being
allowed to live sparked the uprisings and dissent in the
districts, as he put it in catching fire "If a girl from
district 12 of all places can defy the capital and walk away
unharmed, whats to prevent them from doing the same?". I think
though, that long before she pulled out those berries, the
rumblings of uprisings were already beginning to take place, so
to me them dying at the hands of the capital would have provided
the same spark President Snow speaks of, only sooner. Most in
the districts have always hated the games, and by the same token
most in the capital loved the games, but on either side, as much
as President Snow hates it, Katniss and Peeta without even
realizing it made people truly feel the pain of what these games
were about. Both sides became invested in the two of them and
therefore their deaths would have not gone unnoticed. Just my
thoughts of course.
By the way, this is my first post on this board, I happen to
type this same question in to google and it lead me to this
thread! :)

I kinda just imagined the folks at the Capitol would have all
been like "Oh crap..." but there probably would've been an
uprising in District 12.
Though to be honest, I kinda would've liked it if Peeta ended up
eating the berries and Katniss had tricked him so she could win,
and then this would later haunt her long after the Games are
over.

If they had eaten the berries it would have been the Capitol's
burden to prove that they were actually in love and not part of
a rebellion. Would they have locked down District 12 to prevent
uprising while churning out a lot of propaganda to assure the
other Districts did not follow suit? I mean, in a way I think it
would have been easier if they had died on the one hand because
the Capitol could have spun the story however they wanted.
Allowing them to live let Peeta and Katniss have a voice and be
the face of the rebellion. I think even if uprisings were
starting to occur as a result of their actions it would have
been easier to squash those with them dead. Let them die with
the berries and be the star crossed lovers of District 12s and
play down their roles as martyrs by forcing their apparent love
down everyone's throats, locking down rebellious Districts
(especially 12), and exercising the power of the Capitol by
maybe killing Peeta's brothers and Prim.
