Does the book series have a proper conclusion?

Or is it kind of open ended so the filmmakers could milk some
more money out of it?
They better not follow the trend and needlessly turn the third
book into a two part movie, or does it deserve it?

It has a proper conclusion.
Someone on here posted that it might be two parts, and I know
people are bitching about it but I think there's a lot to be
said for either splitting the second book or the third book.
There's enough of a change in setting and plot to justify two
movies IMO.

I hope that it isn't split. This does not need to become a
trend.

I can't remember which book they're splitting, two or three, but
after reading them, I have to say a split would be beneficial.
Like, they could justify it artistically and not just as a cash
grab. If anything the last two books felt really rushed in parts
(Victory Tour, Quarter Quell and Capitol fight in particular)
and could easily fill another two hours of material.

It felt like she was afraid to make the books too long. She had
a great opportunity to make a rich canon that could potentially
work as social commentary and its disappointing that she didn't
take advantage of that.
The movies could definitely expand on the world. Especially if
they split the movies. But I don't really know if I'm on board
with splitting the final book into two. That would make an
awfully moody third movie of depressed, PTSD Katniss being all
emo only to end up being choked out by a psychotic Peeta before
the credits roll. That can all easily be done in 30-45 minutes
(while still including exposition and military strategy...much
of which can also be laid out in the second movie).
Then again. I read the book a while ago. Its possible I'm
forgetting something major. And seeing as the first movie made a
ton of money, I think its very likely a split will happen.

I thought the split was already given the green light?
I said this elsewhere, but ideally I'd love to see a lot more
time devoted to the second Games in Catching Fire. The different
victors, the "clock" of challenges, etc. I seriously thought
that that would be the vast majority of the second book and it
was, like, a fourth of it. I don't know how they could divide up
the material coherently but that's probably my biggest complaint
about the books.

They have a proper, and depressing lol, conclusion.
It's been a while since I've read the books but I don't think
the split is necessary unless they do it well. In THG film, they
rushed things that didn't really involve the main actions, like
Katniss' friendship with Rue, and the other books also have
situations that involves other characters, besides the main
ones.
One of my friends, who hasn't read the books, told me he wished
to know more about the characters like Katniss' skills with the
bow, something that is also said in THG/Catching Fire boards by
people who has read the books. He also agreed with me that some
scenes like Rue's friendship with Katniss and death felt rushed
and that the movie wasn't as great as most people were saying.
He gave it a 8/8.5
Maybe the problem of the film was that they tried to cram
everything into the movie instead of adapting it. Like in
Philosopher's Stone, although it was simpler because they didn't
have to involve too many characters in the plot.
It's confirmed that Mockingjay will be split in 2 films, which I
don't really find necessary neither because it was mainly of
Katniss whining. They could do with the big war as the main
spotlight. Let's hope they manage to give the story more sense
besides doing the split to make more money.

The reason I think the split of Mockingjay would work is because
there is a lot of plot in District 13 before they get to the
capitol.
If we end Catching Fire with "Katniss there is no District 12"
and then open the third with Finnick and Katniss' recovery in
the hospital, Gale's exposition about what happened to District
12 and how the other Districts are rebelling, and the
introduction of President Coin. We still have a lot of plot to
cover. We have Katniss' recovery, the bombing of District 13,
Katniss deciding to be the Mockingjay (and her requirements) and
going to District 8 and making promo videos, and then her return
to District 12, Beetee developing weapons and hijacking the
capitols feed, crazy Finnick, Prim is now a healer, Peeta's
interviews from the Capitol, planning the rebellion, getting
Peeta, Johanna, and Annie out of the capitol. It could end with
Peeta choking Katniss... so the majority of the plot would be
about planning the rebellion and would also present us with the
relationship between Gale and Katniss.
Then Mockingjay Part II would have a bit of District 13 in the
beginning (maybe Annie and Finnick's wedding?) and a little bit
of focus on hijacked Peeta, and then we'd have very quickly the
battle at The Nut, and then the invasion of the Capitol and the
assassination of Coin.
Catching Fire needs to montage that District tour and go
straight into the Quarter Quell.

That's what I meant about the whole war, thought it would fit in
one film, but it is a lot. Hopefully they do it justice.

This is what I thought. I thought the books had so much more
potential and she could have done much more with them. But it
felt like she was scared to make them longer than what they
were. I don't know. Maybe that is how she truly wanted the books
to end, but I am disappointed that she didn't take advantage of
it.
