We're getting a PS3, is The Force Unleashed any good?

Meh, the story is ok and it's set in my favourite time-frame of
Star Wars, but the gameplay is just decent and it's over in
about 5-6 hours.
If you can get it for under $20 you should get it, it's
entertaining enough.

Well, since Battlefront 3 is still in limbo and I don't own a PC
(so now TOR) what options do I have besides The Force Unleashed
and Lego Star Wars?
Is the second Force Unleashed any better?

Give it a go, it's enjoyable enough, just don't expect anything
amazing is all I'm trying to say.
I never got around to finishing the second one but it seemed to
be on the same level as the first, but don't play it first as
the story continues directly on and you'll be lost.
I don't know why they aren't cashing in on the success of the
Battlefront series, I seriously loved those games and I want a
new one with better graphics.

Not only that but with the prevalence of online gaming networks
it'd be so awesome to play vs. other people. You could have a
massive mutliplayer first shooter like COD or you could have the
option to play vs just another player, plus the space battles
were pretty sweet. I loved landing in the rebel/trade federation
ships, infiltrating the engine and shield room and taking that
shit down from the inside. There was a really fun option where
you basically were in a massive chess game to control bases and
you'd have to do it through control of different planets, that
was my favorite part of Battlefront II.
I'm just a huge Star Wars fan and I want something to play when
Billy gets the PS3. I haven't played any type of video game
seriously since Halo 3.

Yes! I loved all those things you mentioned, particularly that
chess mode, I feel like playing it now actually. Online
Battlefront would be great, I think they actually had online in
Battlefront 2, but back then it wasn't really a mainstream
feature and my original Xbox was never connected to the
internet, so I never played it.
I have to say I still really like the Star Wars Lego games, I
assume you've played them? They really brought out the insane
collector and completionist in me.
Anyway I think The Force Unleashed will satisfy your need for a
Star Wars game on the PS3, and as I've said it's enjoyable
enough and for me was worth it just for the story.
It's kind of surprising there aren't many more quality Star Wars
games for the PS3 or Xbox 360, I'm still annoyed they made ToR
instead of just KOTR III

From what I understand, the second one is pretty much an
expansion pack to the first. Only get it if you REALLY enjoy the
first one.
