How to Brew Perfect Potions
By: Hermes_The_Exile Date: August 26, 2011, 2:29 pm
---------------------------------------------------------
Make the easier potions to get points more often! The Boils Cure
and the Poisons Antidote are the easiest, quickest and least
finicky.
Crushing Ingredients: Use the mortar and pestle on the table.
Drag the ingredient(s) needed, and drop them in this mortar.
Click the pestle. A bar should pop up. Keep clicking on the
pestle, and you will see a pink line rising in the bar. When the
bar turns green, stop clicking. It is now ready to be used in
the potion. If you grind the ingredient too much, it will not
work and your potion will fail.
Temperatures: The blue button on the left, below your cauldron,
turns the heat off. The orange button in the middle will turn
the heat on. The red button on the far right will quickly
increase heat.
Temperature Management: At some point in every potion, you'll
need to heat your cauldron and ingredients for the specific
amount of time and at a specific level. Click the buttons listed
above to raise the temperature in the cauldron. As soon as a
button is clicked, a thermometer gauge should pop up. On the
gauge, you will see two lines. When the "mercury" reaches the
bottom line, the timer will start. Use the middle button (low
heat) and the left button (power off) to keep the temperature
between the two lines. For example, click the blue button to
turn off the heat if it's getting too high, and then turn the
heat back on before the temperature drops too much. If it does
not stay within those lines for the entirety of the timer, then
your potion will be ruined.
Pouring Ingredients from a Bottle: Grab the very top of the
bottle with your mouse pointer, and rest the bottom of the
bottle on the edge of the cauldron or the mortar. Tip the bottle
slowly into the cauldron or cauldron to pour. If you grip your
bottle too "low," you won't have control over it and it'll be
too easy to tip over.
Standard Ingredient: The "standard ingredient" is the green
ingredient in the bag, which sits on the right side of the
table. It looks like an herb.
Stirring Your Ingredients: Click on the spoon in the cauldron
and drag it to the right (clockwise) or left (counterclockwise)
to stir your potion. Aim for wide mouse gestures; stirring too
narrowly makes the stirs not register. If your stir was
successful, you'll see a count above your cauldron.
Waving Your Wand: You can see your "wand" on the table on the
right-hand side. Just click it to "wave" it. The wand may or may
not move; it's a glitch. When you see lightning sparks, it means
the "wand wave" was successful. A green vapor means your potion
failed. Lightning with no green vapor means it was a success.
You will have to wave the wand after you finish the first part,
and to finalize your potion.
At random, your cauldron may melt. If this happens, try
refreshing your page, otherwise you will lose 5 house points. A
successful potion is worth 5 house points and a failed one
(unless you melt the cauldron) is worth 1 point for effort.

Me too. My potions page is also stuck, for some reason. I
emailed them to say so but it's still stuck. Boo. Hopefully
it'll sort itself out.

It keeps saying I added the wrong amount of bezoar for one of
the potions (can't remember which), even though I definitely did
not. Ugh, it's so frustrating!
Hopefully I'll like dueling more, whenever they put it back
up...

Dude, I'm kicking ass at dueling! I wish it'd go alive again.
I love how you, me and Becky are all in Slytherin.

I am having some serious struggles with stirring lol. Do I drag
it in a circle or just side to side?

Stirring tripped me up for a while too. You want to make wide
gestures with your mouse. Drag the spoon around, but your cursor
should be a centimeter or two away from the cauldron. If you
stir too "tight," the stir won't register.
Clockwise stirring is easier than counter-clockwise stirring.
