Dan admits to being DRUNK on-set!

"Dead behind the eyes". Looks like some of our criticisms
were... true.

The headline is a little misleading. It's not like he was
drinking on set, that being said it's still not great to hear
about. Especially since Heyman and co. bragged about how all of
the Potter kids were on the straight and narrow. I understand he
had a problem but it sucks that he brought it to Potter, it puts
a bit of a damper on it for me. I wonder what scenes he was
"dead behind the eyes" for ... like every scene with Bonnie
Wright (not a dig at Bonnie, more like a dig at Dan being a
plank of wood during those scenes)? I think he needs to be
careful about what he tells reporters. First the Rupert comment
and then this. It's really easy to twist these stories into
something more sinister.

It's like Dan's bored and trying to stir stuff up or something.

I think a lot of comments are taken out of context and harped
on. Like the Rupert comment.
The drunk one: whatever. He wasn't drinking on set. He didn't
let it disrupt his life or work. He was in on time and he got
his shit done. But it would explain why some of HBP seems a bit
half-assed on his part.
But it doesn't bother me. Its a phase many young adults go
through. Live and learn.
I really don't think he's trying to stir anything up. He's
talking about life in a matter of fact manner and people are
bugging out.

I would say that if he was still tipsy when he was at work and
it was affecting his performances (which he admitted), then it
was disruptive. It's not generally acceptable to show up to
work tipsy at most jobs. I don't care because it's not me and
it's not my movie. But, no...that's not something that you
would do in a normal professional job.
He's saying things that it doesn't take a rocket scientist or a
PR expert to know will cause a stir. Again...not my problem.
I'm neither Dan's mother nor his employer, so I genuinely don't
give a damn. But, it's self-inflicted on his part, both times.

I am not exaggerating when I say every single person I know in
my life has shown up to work in the morning still drunk from the
night before. Myself included. Professional jobs, internships,
part-time jobs, class, (whatever the case may be) its not an
uncommon thing. You man up and get your work done.
When you regularly show up belligerently drunk, smelling like a
frat house, looking like a mess, and putting in a piss poor
performance that's when you have something to worry about.

Regardless, it's a dumb PR move to tell people you were showing
up to work hungover/drunk or what-have-you to this major movie
series that's main demographic is children. That and I think Dan
talks and then thinks. This and the Rupert comment were taken
out of context and twisted. Dan wasn't drinking on set, but what
he did is by no means professional... either way I wouldn't
volunteer that information to a reporter. It seems to me that
now that he's not being reigned in by WB he's being a bit more
relaxed in interviews and we're getting the good of that (Live
w/ Kelly, SNL, etc.) and the bad (these off the cuff remarks).
This wouldn't be as big a deal if he wasn't going to be called
Harry Potter for the rest of his life, but he is. He's always
going to be Harry Potter and he's always going to be associated
with children's films.

Well, that and he's unfortunately playing into the stereotypes
for child stars that he had seemed to be working to avoid.
Oh well. Not my problem.

Well didn't he already admit a while ago that he had a drinking
problem during Potter? I kind of already figured he was showing
up some days still hung over or tipsy. I just wish he'd stop
talking about it. We get it.

Agree to disagree, but I don't see what the big deal is. He
admits he drank, that it was a little out of hand, so he stopped
like a responsible person. And he was of the legal age when he
was doing it. I actually think that the whole situation makes
him relatable and the fact that he had enough sense to stop is
admirable. I think he drank pretty responsibly.
I get that it's a children series, but how many stars of how
many children series were complete messes? I don't think
becoming somewhat of a lush at a legal drinking age is playing
into any sort of stereotype about child stars.
Not to mention that drinking was a pretty common occurrence in
the HP books themselves. Hagrid was established as a drinker
since the first book. Trewlaney in the third. And the students
got drinks in the later books, even sneaking them into the
castle.
