       Kind of a random thought
By: StealYellowMen Date: December 21, 2011, 7:56 pm

So if all witches/wizards get their letters on their eleventh
birthdays, that means Hermione got hers in September right after
       starting a school year. Right?
       That's gotta suck.

Ha yeah, I never even thought about this, that means she would
have had a whole year to wait before actually getting to go to
Hogwarts, her wiki page says she started the next year when she
       was about to turn twelve.
This makes her reading the entire book list for that year seem
less impressive now, because really what else would she have
been doing that year, would she have still gone to her Muggle
       school?

I am positive Hermione still went to muggle school and worked
       just as hard.
I think any of us would personally find it hard to care too much
about that year's school work. But definitely not Hermione. She
probably gave herself a double-load by rushing home from school
       to devour Hogwarts, A History

Yeah that sounds like exactly what she would have done.
I wonder if she had any friends at her normal school, she might
have told them about getting her letter and then her friends may
have had a 'Petunia' reaction and abused her, so she would have
become an outcast in her school, adds a bit more weight to why
she was so upset when she overheard Ron teasing her huh?

But Harry's first letter came a month before his 11th birthday,
it came on Dudley's. Then Vernon spent the next month avoiding
them till on Harry's birthday Hagrid came smashing through the
       door.
So I personally believe that the letters come in the summer
before the year the prospective students start.

Yeah, the letters don't come on their eleventh birthdays. It was
just a coincidence that Hagrid caught up to Harry on his. The
letters come the summer before they start their first year.

@Aussie, I don't think Hermione ever had any real friends. She
probably treated Muggle primary school the same way she
approached her Hogwarts' studies. Couple that with her
personality and most likely her unusualness (she was a witch
after all, and that had to isolate her if she recognized her
magical abilities at an early age)... so I think her Hogwarts
Letter was a fresh start for her. She got to go off to a new
school and a new world and she most likely devoured anything
related to the Wizarding World because she was so happy to have
       a place to fit in.

True guys. I stand corrected. I got too lost in the thought I
       guess.

What about Voldemort? He was born on New Years Eve.

I really wish we had known a little more about Hermione's
backstory. It didn't need to be in the books, but I would have
loved it if Jo had talked more about it. We get to hear stories
of Ron when he was younger, but nothing from Hermione.
