That was Newell, not Fiennes though.
Then all is forgiven.
For Fiennes at least haha.

I agree with what Youbex said. But for me this is the only Harry
Potter film that I hate, like, genuinely cannot bear to watch.
The main reason is because of the script, also the acting and
delivery of certain lines. The dialogue is awful for the most
part, full of cringeworthy, awkward and unfunny (to me, anyway)
humour. Some examples:
KRUM KRUM KRUM
"There's no one like Krum! He's like a bird the way he rides the
wind! He's more than an athlete! He's an artist."
"I think you're in love, Ron."
"Victor, I love you! Victor, I do..." etc
Dan's awkward delivery "When we're apart my heart beats only for
you!"
That scene...is painful for me to watch. I'm sure a lot of
people enjoy it and find it funny, but it sets my teeth on edge.
Ron and Harry's fighting / arguing. :”You're a right foul git,
you know that?” etc it just doesn't feel right.
Moaning Myrtle.
And when Ron receives his dress robes: "Well, it does match your
eyes. Is there a bonnet? Ah ha!" - oh, Dan.
"Oh my god! I've killed Harry Potter!"
Cedric Diggory has just been murdered: "Do you think we'll ever
just have a quiet year at Hogwarts?" NO LOL.
David Tennant. (I am a fan of his...but not in this.) The whole
Barty Crouch storyline...
There are so many more small moments like these which irk me in
the film. I probably seem nitpicky haha, but honestly they all
add up and ruin the film for me.
I completely agree with all of this, I thought it was just me
who was annoyed at these little things because everyone I talk
to in real life love this movie and they always choose to
rewatch this one.
They think I'm crazy for calling POA and OOTP my favourites lol.
I'll also add Ron's "piss off", why did they have him wait until
him and Harry's argument had finished for a good 5 seconds to
say it, it would've been fine if it had been right in the
moment. Instead it just feels like they put it in to be
"shocking" OMG he said a swear word in a HP movie!

Why critics and casual fans/moviegoers like it:
It's mindless fun. Casual moviegoers like action scenes and
awkward budding romance. GoF has a lot of them, including a
dragon! Plus it's got cringeworthy humor, which people
apparently find funny.
Why fans are divided on the movie:
The cringeworthy humor *shudders* It's also a poor adaptation of
the book. I know the book is extremely long and it's impossible
to fit them all, but a lot of stuff was cut in lieu of other
unneeded scenes.

Two reasons why I don't like this movie as much as the others is
because everyone just seems...off. Like, a majority of the
actors felt like they were just off their game in this one. I
don't know how to really explain it. Rupert was okay, but it was
easily his worst performance of the series. Dan was off and
didn't seem like Harry, particularly in the scene after the
World Cup and in the "Who wants me to open it?!" scene. Emma was
awful in this movie, between her eyebrows and over-the-top
acting. Michael Gambon (as much as I liked him as Dumbledore)
went down a few notches after his brilliant performance in
Prisoner of Azkaban.
And the other beef I have with this movie is why did they bother
to include Rita Skeeter at all in the first place? They built
her up to be this really huge character that ultimately went
nowhere. She came, interviewed Harry, wrote two articles for the
Daily Prophet, and then she disappeared until the seventh movie
where she wrote a book (that also went pretty much nowhere). I'm
not saying Rita Skeeter's a massively important character, but
there was just so much they could've done with her to set up
Order of the Phoenix and it just felt like wasted potential.
Also, Miranda Richardson was just fantastic as Rita. Ha ha.
I don't mind it, right up until the graveyard scene. It's
supposed to be all tense but really it's just laughable and I
really have to cover my eyes. Especially when Voldemort says 'I
can touch you.....NOWWWW.' Ugh.
Finally some people that dissliked the graveyard scene too. It
seems like everybody else likes it. Even those that didn't like
the rest of the movie.
I didn't like it at all. It was many years since I saw the movie
but this is how I remember it: Voldemort wasn't scary enough and
his eyes where too blue. Cedric's death was not scary enough. In
the book it was just: "where are we" and then he dies but in the
movie they first showed Wormtail walking around. And when
Harry's trapped in the statue it looks like he should be able to
wriggle himself out from it.
I remeber being the most upset about Voldemorts lack of read
eyes. I had been looking forward to seing that in the movie. I'm
sure that many other kids had too.

The only thing that is perfect in this scene is the rebirth part
when the cauldron sets on fire and the mutant Voldemort morphs
into his final form. It's so dark and really visceral which was
awesome.
I agree that the rest of the scene was a little underwhelming
though, I don't really like the voice Ray Fiennes gave him
(although he captured what it was described as in the book
perfectly) and he seemed too comical to be truly sinister and
terrifying.
When he touches Harry and they both orgasm, that's when the
scene becomes way too ridiculous to bear.

I think it was pretty good considering how much they had to cut
for time. There was simply no way to have done everything in the
time limit. I actually liked that the Barty Crouch Jr storyline
was simplfied. It seemed a bit long and complicated in the book.
Though of course, they should have given a better explanation
for how he got out of Azkaban, rather than just a casual mention
of 'oh, looks like we'll have to tell Azkaban they've been
missing a prisoner for a year without them even noticing, even
though it was mentioned numerous times that it's really really
hard to break out of Azkaban in the last film.' ::)
Don't know why people complain about the hair. Particularly in
Harry's case. Do these people not realize the book states that
his hair is supposed to be a tangled mess? Really, it's so funny
when lunatics whine that the movies are just awful because
Daniel Radcliffe's eyes are blue, and then can say in the same
breath, 'the hair in GoF is just awful even though it is exactly
as described in the book.'
I agree there are some directing/writing fails: e.g. angry
Dumbledore, Harry yelling "do you want me to open it?" and
saying "I love magic" and the twins fighting after the Aging
Potion fails, but I don't think there was any truly bad acting.
When he touches Harry and they both orgasm, that's when

That I agreed with at first, but really, Dan does that all the
time, even worse in DH part 2, so I've just learned to ignore
it.
The third task was butchered and the World Cup riot should have
been longer (and Voldy's eyes should have been red,) but I still
think the good outweighs the bad.
The humour is a bit cheesy, but I actually liked most of it. One
of my favourite bits is the 'Victor I love you, Victor I do...'
song. (Though I admit Ron's line beforehand is awful.)
But to answer the original question, I suppose people who
haven't read the books just see the fast pace and action and
don't notice the OOC moments and plot holes.
Also, just feel I have to add, I LOVE the Yule Ball scene. No
matter what else is wrong with the movie, that scene is
beautiful and just how I imagined it. (aside from Hermione's
dress being the wrong colour, but hey, you can't have
everything.)

I agree with Youbex. It's an entertaining movie, but I feel it
left out what I found to be the most interesting elements of the
plot (the whole Crouch mystery/revalation). I can enjoy it, but
it also feels the least like an HP movie to me.

Wasn't long hair popular around 2004/2005? Newell let them
do whatever they wanted to their own hair or something like
that. To make them appear like more realistic school pupils.
I don't mind the hair.
PoA had the best hair though.
