My thoughts and opinions on several Harry Potter ships
By: FurySerenity Date: September 30, 2011, 5:32 pm
---------------------------------------------------------
I wrote this for Tumblr, but thought I'd put it here too.
My thoughts and opinions of some of the different “ships” in
Harry Potter.
I don’t wish to offend anyone. Just random thoughts.
First I will start off with Ron/Hermione. Which is the ship I
will always follow, and always defend. I have been a Harry
Potter fan ever since I started to read the books way back in
late 2000/early 2001. By then I had finished the first four
books. I don’t know which book it was that really made it sink
in… , but by the time I was finished with Goblet of Fire, I was
sure that Ron and Hermione would get together. So for roughly
the 10+ past years, I have been dedicated to the Ron/Hermione
ship. That’s a long time. The big pay-off, of course, was when
JK Rowling confirmed that “yes, we know now it is Ron and
Hermione.” Watching the movies, of course, I never felt any
different. I loved all the chemistry between Rupert Grint and
Emma Watson, and I thought they did well, and their portrayal as
the two characters, and their budding relationship was excellent
and just so cute at times. I will always support this ship and
be dedicated to it.
Harry/Hermione: Being a Ron/Hermione shipper, this is one I will
always fight against. It confuses me, and angers me sometimes,
how people can be so dedicated to this, so long after JK Rowling
confirmed it was Ron/Hermione, and then it was more confirmed in
the final Harry Potter book. Sure, an innocent liking for the
idea of their relationship is okay with me, but when people
think it would really happen, or that JK Rowling got it wrong…
that is when I get angry. JK Rowling did not get it wrong. She
is the author. Harry/Hermione shippers, I say this to you. You
do not say she got it wrong. You were wrong. Deal with it.
Just because Emma and Dan have good chemistry in the movies…
just because Steve Kloves is a Harry/Hermione shipper… does not
mean the movies do anything to change the fact that in the end
Harry and Hermione do not get together. I don’t see how people
can see these two getting together, even in the movies. Is it
because Dan and Emma had good chemistry? Maybe you are a
Dan/Emma shipper more than you are a Harry/Hermione shipper… or
deserve to be. I’ve even been told by people that they thought
Harry/Hermione would get together from the earlier movies, and
didn’t catch Ron/Hermione until somewhere like HBP. Er…
Ron/Hermione had clues early on from like CoS and PoA. There are
like two, maybe three Harry/Hermione scenes I could see as
pointing to a relationship, but I see them as friendship:
1. Harry and Hermione’s Time-Turner stuff in PoA, including
Harry protecting Hermione from Werewolf!Remus. As friends,
they’d protect each other. Right? Oh, and did you miss all the
Ron/Hermione stuff in POA then? Hermione hugging Ron, even
though Harry is right next to her? Definitely not Harry/Hermione
there!
2. Harry comforting Hermione after she gets upset that Ron
kissed Lavender in HBP. That’s again… a friend’s actions toward
a friend, and more-so points to Harry/Ginny and Ron/Hermione
than Harry/Hermione.
3. Harry and Hermione’s dance in DH1. Again comforting a friend
because she is depressed that Ron is gone. They dance, she’s
happy… but… she’s depressed again that Ron is gone still. Harry
couldn’t cheer her up. That’s Ron/Hermione.
Back to the books. Do me a favor and read the Silver Doe chapter
again in Deathly Hallows will you? The part where Harry says to
Ron that Hermione is like his sister, and he thinks Hermione
feels the same way about that. Then come back to me. K?
Harry/Ginny: This is another one I will always support and am
happy to say I was right. I find I am not as dedicated, not by
far, to this ship, as I am with Ron/Hermione, but I still knew
by, say, around Chamber of Secrets book that Harry and Ginny
would end up together. It was easy to tell. I didn’t care if it
was predictable. I liked it.
Neville/Luna: The one non-canon ship I will always support. I
wished this really happened, and I loved how they let it happen
in the final Harry Potter movie. Even JK Rowling herself saw,
after the final book was published and she had thought about who
Neville and Luna ended up with, did she say that Neville and
Luna could have worked together. It is true. They could have. It
would have been really cute. Instead they ended up with
characters whom never had much book time.. or in Luna’s mate’s
case… none at all.
Draco/Astoria: Love this couple. Though we don’t know about
Astoria too much, I like to think she’s right for Draco, and
really changes him as a person. I like to think she’s a far more
innocent pureblood, like the Weasleys. Maybe someone Draco’s
parents wouldn’t like, but someone who could calm Draco down.
————————————————————-
Ships I really hate and will not comment on, other than to say
they are ridiculous and would have never happened at ALL!!!
Dream on shippers:
Harry/Draco
Hermione/Draco
Draco/Ginny
Okay, I’ll comment on it a little. Never would have happened,
especially Harry/Draco. I don’t get why people like the thought
of something like Hermione/Draco. What is it? Girl falls for
bad-boy, even though bad-boy is highly prejudiced against people
like her, and they’ve been basically rivals and hated each other
for a good seven years? Right… like I said, dream on!
—————————————————————
Other ships I like:
Remus/Tonks - supported this since I read Order of the Phoenix
Seamus/Lavender - Fun to read about, especially in fan-fiction!
Draco/Pansy - not many people like Pansy, but I kind of like her
character. And I liked the thought of Draco with Pansy, but I
like Draco/Astoria more.
————————————————————-
Other ships I do not like:
Hermione/Krum - UGH! Don’t even get me started on that one.
Ginny/Dean - Didn’t like this one bit. Never did.

I shockingly agree with all of this even though my main ship is
Harry/Ginny. What's your tumblr? I'll follow it on the TFC
tumblr and if it's cool reblog your shipping thing, or I could
link to it on the facebook page - either way.
