She stood and took his questions blank faced
"In order?....I do not know yet...No...I have no idea...I have
no idea...and I have seen him once, when he first showed
interest in Gavri'el....and Yes, he is! as for his training, he
is well trained, but no one is untouchable..."
She stared at him with a look of disbelief that turned something
cold all to quickly
"Now my question.....Is your library locked down now, Sire?...If
not, allow me to go warn the Keeper ..at the very least. Or is
that under your arch of having faith in those I love?"

Will not be opened til I tell the keeper to unlock it . Even
with the person you made to look like me. . . It would take more
than that to get in does that ease your conscience more?

The hardest thing was getting past how beautiful he is to her.
How much years of adoring him left her fighting not to crumble
before him. But it was getting easier with each cruel taunt he
threw at her. Her jaw tightened with each of his words, then she
responded
"Does it ease yours knowing that you and the library were my
first concern? Not Gavri'el ... this...what you have built! This
was my concern. I love Gavri'el deeply, but this is more
important. I wanted to be sure this was safe..that you knew this
happened.. YOU and YOUR work were my first concern...so do not
patronize me Father! I admit, I do not know enough about this
Cassuis to know what he is capable of... but I wanted you to
know that a threat was possible. Yet you stand here treating me
like a child who's afraid of shadows."
She looked at him, shaking her head
"My conscience is fine and in no need of easing. Was it foolish
to make him? Maybe so, but I needed you...even a poor imitation
of you, because I was frightened and felt unloved. And when I no
longer felt that way I offered him any look he wanted - he
refused. I could have forced him, but I did not want to add more
hurt to him. I take full responsibility for that."
Her face hardened again
"And I admit I am not immune to idiocy...I lost a week with
Michael, was made half insane by him, spit out, then had to go
back in to fix him before he let the city fall in his quest for
ascension ..all because Petronius lets some lunatic in there who
preys on his mind and has him convinced of all manner of
insanity! I lost the part of me he created and the part of me
you created last night ...and now...now I have lost my favorite
ghoul. It seems a little less condescension and a bit more
concern would be found in ones Sire ... but I suppose that is
just another instance of my idiocy."
She was no longer angry ... her words had somehow turned it all
to disappointment
"I would like you to restore my face to the one you created for
me, this one does not suit me. You can refuse, but I will ask it
all the same. But for now, I am going to find Gavri'el ...
hopefully I will make it back ... and hopefully this will not be
something else you throw in my face. "
She turned to leave, sick with all of this day before it had
barely begun.

Have I treated so terribly in your life you feel that it is
necessary to treat me as you just did. Gavriel is fine and in
the catacoms with the Mistress as he was found this afternoon
wandering. .

She stopped on command. Neither the speed in which he made it to
her or him taking her face in his hands phased her She stood and
looked us at him with eyes that could have broken an angels
heart.
"No,Sire. Just since my return. Your efforts to force my growth
have been both cruel but fruitful. Pain is a crude but excellent
teacher. I'm sorry if the results are not what you hoped for. To
my point...you could have easily just told me that he was safe.
But you chose to toy with me. Now you tell me...
What have I ever done to deserve this treatment for you?

"As I recall I apologized for intruding in such a way then said
we have a serious problem. Because, to me, a threat to this
place is serious. Admittedly I was upset and could have done a
better job of informing you, but it has been a shit of a few
past days, forgive me.
She was trying very hard to contain her emotions.

with no concern for what he is advised. . . I have missing books
from my library. . . We have the Autokrator in torpor from
Michaels tantrum.. . yes i have a few things on my mind plus a
dozen others

She closed her eyes a moment then looked back up at him
"Michael is broken and needs love more than anything else, yet
everyone abandons him except that lunatic and so he has fallen
under his influence... Speak to Lord Mannix about your books,
Cassius had hired him to copy a book-it may one of yours... I
know about Natalya, she in in that state for saving me from the
lunatic ... and I know you care for me, know that I love you,act
accordingly .... and while we are exchanging things, I am likely
going to be marrying Thomas."
She took his hands in hers
"Will you give me my face back, Father? Gavri'el is safe enough
with Lady Alexia for a few more moments."
