Large Housholds

Mikhail had been on night duty at the palace for close to a week
and was starting to get used to the strange sleeping pattern.
Usually he arrived home with the dawn and would eat with Igor if
the old warrior was awake, sometimes asking after his day but
usually resting in companionable silence before going to bed.
Awaking in the afternoon Mikhail would proceed about his
personal business, conferring with Igor on the problems of
staffing, practicing with his weapons master in the courtyard,
seeing too it that the house was provisioned at least for them
and their horses, and of course caring for Borya.
Coming downstairs this afternoon Mikhail goes hunting for Igor,
the staffing pressing on his mind alongside other matters.
"Igor..
Igor. ..ah there you are my friend. Have you had any luck
finding us some staff...I know hunting down washerwomen is not
how you'd rather spend your days but there are other matters
building up behind."

Mikhail looks the grizzled man over for a moment, flicks his
eyes to the door and then back. "Good Igor, very good, I should
like to meet them soon then." Clasping the older man on the
shoulder he grins "but come, let us give them some time to
prepare themselves eh...and talk of the courtyard."
Looping an arm over Igor's shoulder he's lead the other man down
and out to the courtyard. "This place has served us well enough
for a practice yard, but there is a guest I would entertain that
has a desire for weapons training. I think some archery targets
would be an improvement for our little garden here don't
you...and we'll need plenty of heavy log rounds, for practicing
with the axe." Of course Igor knew all about training someone to
wield an axe well "do you think it could be done, can war turn
this into a proper training ground rather than just a pretty
scab for our sword play?"

I will begin in earnest tomoorw morning for that.

at the entrance no more than average in looks but seemed to be
stout in nature*

"Good, we won't have recourse to many young blooded volunteers
to hold the rounds...even if we had them, I have an idea for
training and wouldn't want them gawking at our guest." Just then
Mikhail notices the women and with a broad smile switches over
to Greek. "Good evening ladies, rise, rise...you needn't kneel
before me, only serve as I or Federovich require." For a few
moments he looks the women over and those laughing eyes seem
oddly piercing. "For now I only wish to know your names and to
break my fast."
Going back to his mother tongue "they look strong Igor, you've
done well."

"Emma, Olivia..." Mikhail smiles and nods with each name, and
looks thoughtful for a moment after they ask about food. "Meat,
bread, cheese...vegetables in custard, honey cakes and kvass
though I doubt you know the making of it...I am also quite fond
of fish. Anything of that nature will suffice."
He'd started to turn back to Igor when he pauses "do either of
you ladies know how best to keep a bath house, such as the one
here is? They are quite different here and I'd keep ours in good
working order. You will of course have the use of it when your
other duties are not pressing."

We thank you My Lord. . w will go about making sure you have
the food and drinks on hand as well as any other preparations
you my be in need of. . .Will there be a Misses of the house?

"A misses...no, I think not for some time. Maybe some day. I may
have a female guest from time to time, which I trust you ladies
will keep to yourselves yes?" He does not sound concerned that
they will gossip, yet there is a darker gleam of amusement in
his gaze that suggests they would be foolish to do so.
"Oh and which of you is most likely to bake, I have a special
request to make of you..." smiling he switches to his mother
tongue "Igor, why dont you go get ready for the meal, we can
speak at table."

more than 20 minutees passed as they set the food upon the table
and poured their drinks*
