The week that passes

Mannix watched with a careful eye as the ten year old moved
again, following his actions to move as fast as possible.
"Again."
He stood beside her, holding the wooden stick out in front of
him the way he had showed her to. Hers was smaller than his own
and not weighted, appropriate for her. His body was turned
sideways and one foot slightly forward. He moved forward and
struck and then moved forward again, then stepped back.
"Parry, thrust, lunge, riposte, block."
He went though them again and again. She was doing well. He had
started by telling her she needed to get strong, and having her
lift very heavy rocks, carry them and then drop and repeat. Then
speed training with running short distances with sudden bursts
of speed. Then jumping up on stumps and now sword training. Her
other lessons were going well too. She was as good as her word
to do her best to please him. He just hoped she was burning up
the blood he had given her as fast as possible. He didn't want
her hurt by the vitae she had drank. He wouldn't give her any
more till she was finished growing. He thought about the other
project he had been working on this week. The illustrated book
of Gargoyles, a study of possibilities, movements. wings and
claws and all the different ways they could look. He had come up
with 3 distinct types with 2 looks each and showed all sorts of
details. He had worked like a madman, finding inspiration in
those little studies. He was ready to make a gift of it to the
Tremere.
Of course all this blood use had required him to hunt and he had
used his time with training Petra to work on his own skills. It
had been a hard week but a good one.
He smiled down at Petra.
"That is really good. I am so proud of you. Do you want a rest
and some water?"
He really did care for her.
