Mannix started the night, not by going out but by going to the
courtyard to practice his sword work. He stripped down to soft
boots and a plain kilt as was common for many of the people from
his area when growing up. Plus it gave him a full range of
movement. There was a sunken pole in the courtyard just for this
reason and he went through the exercises he had been taught when
younger. Thrust parry block retreat, repeat. After twenty,
change the order. There were many exercises he knew to follow
and he went through them all. It felt good to do something
physical for a change.

memory so she could do the same so she could protect him. She
watched him through a small slit in the doorway heading out to

After some time he finished and taking a towel he put it over
his shoulders. Of course he didnt sweat but it was best to go
for appearances plus there was habits in death as in life. He
looked around, seeing the place and using his gift of sight to
check things out. They were doing better than he would have
thought possible considering there were only two of them taking
care of a fairly large property. Still at least one more set of
hands would be good.
"Have you eaten tonight yet, Petra."
He said that to the open air. He didn't see her but she was
always watching him. He was proud that she was getting so good
at being stealthy.
"We will have to teach you to fight soon. Come along. Food and
then lessons."

He laughed as she appeared.
"Are you tired already? Use your senses. What has been
prepared?"
He tested her and encouraged her but never harshly and always
kindly. It was his way.

was not. What they for meals when they had them. Was as if she
had seen everything since early morning. She told him exactly
what was prepared *

He smiled.
"Look at you, you are amazing. So you have been up all day while
I slept? You are a growing girl and you need your sleep little
one. Maybe we should concentrate on that. By the way..."
He bent over and gave her a kiss on the top of the head.
"That was for being such a good set of eyes and for being aware
of everything around you."

He smiled at her.
"I appreciate that. Look at you being amazing. Are you learning
to be sneaky, stealthy? I am very proud of you. If you are
tired, you should eat dinner and get some rest. I promise to be
around before morning."
