Coalesced dreams (Amaris, open)

It was a fine night out, a little cool but pleasant. Mannix wore
a light cloak over his normal dress and sipped from a glass and
brass goblet as he sat on a veranda up above the Mese. So many
things to watch, the Vendors lining the street with carts
hawking goods from all over the world. Everything was available,
from the exotic to the downright weird. The people shopping and
wandering past were as varied and fascinating as the goods. He
pulled the bottle out of the heated water bath and poured
himself a little more. He smiled and watched, just a Citizen
relaxing with a cup of mulled red on a Constantinople night,
above the sea of humanity.

She made her way along the veranda walkway, occasionally looking
over the edge at the people out and about in the early evening.
Tonight she had traded her normal red dress for a deep black
one. There were no adornments or contrasting colors... just an
endless darkness of cloth. She was both antsy and distracted as
the events of the last weeks played through her head on repeat.
A loud noise behind her startled her out of the latest thought
and she turned to see a shattered bottle on the ground and a
very unhappy looking ghoul bending to clean up the mess. She
turned back and continued walking and looking around...that's
when she spotted Mannix. She came up behind him and covered his
eyes with her hands
"What are you looking at pretty boy?"

Mannix paused for only a moment rather than jumping at the well
manicured hands that suddenly covered his eyes. A smile spread
on his pretty lips as he realized who it was. He was a little
surprised that Amaris touched him for the first time and in such
an intimate way. He had kind of expected her to hit him or poke
hm and more than once she had had a look that said she wanted to
slap him. Someone had picked up a new lover, or so it was his
guess. Not that he would let that show on his face. Or he might
lose his vision, or his face.
"The pretty hands of an artist? Good evening Lady Amaris, won't
you join me? The people watching is good tonight."

The was a swish of fabric as she moved to the chair beside his.
Seated, she looked out over the people below again.
"Have you seen anything interesting tonight?"

*from their vantage point they were able to see across the
southern half of the city out to the harbor itself. People
moving here and there. Could see a Larger ship piloting it way
out of the harbor while it had passed several other Moored ones.
Amaris could see the Bathe house she had once visited. Mannix
could see the place that closed their doors to him and
Abatorious places from here also*

He gave Amaris a pleasant and friendly smile as she sat down.
"A few interesting looking people. A person is selling what
looks like miniature skulls down the mese a little, probably
carved from larger bones.There is so much to see in the city, so
much to enjoy. And it is a beautiful lively night. Would you
like a drink? I have a cup brought."

She smiled and listened as he spoke. Thomas' insistance that she
get out and be social got her -sitting with the Torrie and
discussing people...well, it was a start-right? She knew him,
but not overly well, and he was different.
"Oh, it's very kind of you to offer but I do not have the
constitution for it."
She shifted the conversation
"So, there is someone sculpting bones?...I would like to go see
that. My talents do not yet extend to working with expired
materials. BUt tell me, what have you been up to since we last
parted?"

*Amaris was looking out over the city when she suddenly noticed
a shadow moveing quickly from one roof to another then vanished
out of sight*

He thought for a moment as he sipped his drink. When he finished
he lowered his goblet and looked again out over the vista.
"I believe they used a knife to carve the bone. Hmm, Well, I
have mostly been working with the house hold. I have adopted a
young girl. And I have been out in the city meeting new people.
I am also working on a series of sketches, planning for my next
book. One has to stay active with their art. Oh, and I am
learning Sumerian."

She was momentarily distracted by the shadow as it moved, but
once it was out of sight she came back to Mannix's words
"A child? I have a ... project...that collected children and
sold them. He's coming along nicely now ... children will never
come near him again."
She seemed pleased with that idea. But she moved on..
"So your girl, is she training to be an artist as well? Or is
she just for ...companionship?"
Her face betrayed nothing, but her previous admission spoke
volumes.
