       Dash clocks

As I think I’ve mentioned before, one of the reasons I started
building my Riley was because it will finally mean I have
somewhere sensible to put my dashboard mounted chronograph/time
of trip recorder/clock that came from a scrapped Mig21.
Ive collected watches and clocks since I was 10, they are a
fairly major, life long interest of mine, second only to my main
interests of guitars and being incredibly untidy.
I was perusing an online watch magazine today, and I came
across THIS: a really rather fantastically beautiful and rare
dashboard chrono from a Bugatti (with super rare Digital Minute
Totaliser) - one for Stefan to look out for maybe? ;c)

Aye, the big Swiss Jaeger (LeCoultre) ones like that are
basically horological art, and go for ridiculous sums when they
come up for auction, usually at places like Phillips or
       Christie’s.
The soviet ones (1MchZ- made by 1st Moscow Watch Factory) like
mine can be found for reasonable prices, effectively new in box
with decommission papers for about 100 -150 euros from places
like Bulgaria/Romania/Ukraine etc. I picked mine up for 40 euros
from a junk shop in the Czech Republic, along with the slightly
simpler one for about 30 euro. They’re a soviet copy of a
LeCoultre design from the 20s that was commonly found in western
aircraft that made their way via Lend Lease to the USSR during
       the Great Patriotic War.
There’s also various tank clocks that lack the (vaguely fragile)
chronograph complication that really can be picked up for
peanuts. They all make nice desk clocks for the Man Cave.

Obviously though, for a short course racing machine back in the
day, you might not want the weight and complication of an actual
clock… you’d have one or possibly two (for rallying, especially)
of these sort of thing mounted on a plate screwed to a bulkhead
       somewhere-
       stopwatches.

If you were posh you’d have a couple of Heuers, but these two
are Lemanias (who also made them for their parent company
Omega)… the one on the left is an RAF issue from the 50s, the
       one on the right GPO…
another good (British) name to look for is of course SmithS.
These really can be picked up for peanuts. These were a tenner
       each.
