I have made the suspension base at the nose of the car. It is
all still looking fairly agricultural, but I have yet to add any
bodywork or anything aesthetic to the kart. [img][/img]

Looking like more progress Pete. From your previous work I bet
it will be far from agricultural.
Is there any pitch to the suspension pillar or is the trail in
       the pivot at the bottom?

       Thanks Jim!
As regards caster or trail, the pillar will be vertical - no
lean. However, the steering has 2" of trail designed in (with
centre of rotation behind the axle), and I am making the axle
attachment adjustable so that if necessary I can slightly
lengthen the wheelbase by packing the fixing, most likely no
       more than an inch

Re: Bédélia - steering and nose
By: Tinworm Date: July 3, 2022, 4:57 pm
       ---------------------------------------------------------
I am been consistently busy, but haven't been updating my build
       journal.
I now have two spreadsheets: one is a record of spending, the
other a running total of the weight of the build.
I have made my quick-release steering column with main drive
sprocket, which will drive a chain pulling my steering cable.
Also, I have made the nose section supports, which need to be
able to look solid, but also need to accommodate my feet in
boots and allow my toes through the front. (you will see why in
time). So I made these out of angle iron. They are bracketed and
welded to the removable nose suspension unit. This allows for
the possibility of changing the front it I later change over to
       Ackerman steering.

Chuffed with my car horn. Got it for £16 incl p+p on ebay.
       Very nice, loud parp![img][/img]

Re: Bédélia - sliding pillar suspension
By: Tinworm Date: July 12, 2022, 12:52 pm
       ---------------------------------------------------------
I have been working on my nose suspension
I made a sliding collar which will bear down on the main
spring, once I know how much it should be compressed; it will
then be fixed in place. The collar and spring will be housed in
a tube which the collar has been made to fit. But I won't cut
the tube until I know how much compression I need.
Next I need to make the steering block.

I have been holidaying in Portugal, where Lucy (my other half)
has been performing in a music festival, while I have been
exploring Roman aqueducts etc, so there has been a bit of a
       interruption in the build.
Since getting back I gave been experimenting with wood bending,
which has been quite successful. More details pending.
