New Chassis & Components for Production - Please register in

Hello Everyone
I am starting this thread to try and gauge the interest in the
supply of basic components to get some of you going with
building a CycleKart. We understand that for some of you (myself
included) find starting from a blank piece of paper slow going.
Also, the space and tools required can also be a problem.
There are lots of things to take into consideration and I am
hoping that over the coming months we will make some good
progress with the overall guidelines for builders now the
official Club and committee has been formed. Some of these
factors for discussion will include producing Cycklekarts that
are closer to the the 'stevenson' concept and other categories.
For now though as I write this we are on our way to 300 users of
the forum and I would like to find out the interest in the
following:
1. The production and sale of a basic ladder style chassis
2. Hubs, Axles and wheels
3. Engines and upgrade kits
4. A full rolling Chassis
5. Workshop boot camp days (this is very much an idea at this
stage)
The problem to date has been the numbers - if 10 people would
commit to having a chassis produced then the possibilities of
getting the unit costs down become much better.
Please note: We are trying to encourage people into this hobby
and therefore if the above doesn't apply to you then no worries
but all positive comments and suggestions welcome at this stage.
Also if people know of reliable companies that could be added to
a list for services that is also appreciated as we are spread
all over the UK so it may help someone near you :)
Thanks for reading and I look forward to hearing your thoughts.
Andy

Good step forward, Andy.
Anything to help newcomers find there way will be good.
I've posted current quotes for springs in the appropriate topic
- just ordered mine from Owen Springs as i can collect them
easily. The price is seriously discounted for 20 (10 pairs).

I am not sure what you mean by production and sale of a ladder
chassis and a rolling chassis. Do you mean for the club to build
and sell them?

Hi Andy
A good idea mate.
For my part I'd be interested in :-
2. hubs, axles & wheels
3. engine + upgrade kit
5. Workshop boot camp days.
I shall be building my own chassis in wood
Thank you
Martin

Possibly the via the club or business. What I mean is the
production of a "one suits all" tried and tested chassis design.
I suppose the best way to look at this is like the Renegade
Karts in the states.
Thanks

Interesting idea.
I find the product, price and service from Oke Karts very hard
to beat.
They always seem to have most (except sprockets in our
preferred chain size) to hand.
HTML https://www.okeparts.com/collections/diy-home-build/products/drift-trike-go-kart-25mm-rear-axle-diy-build-kit-professional-parts<br
/> is what I have purchased several of. Next day delivery.

What timber are you using for the chassis?

Birch faced plywood, probably a laminate sandwich of two 18mm =
36mm thick. But given that I'd like it to curve at the back,
then may go for 6mm and build up in 6 layers. The structure made
rigid but constructing a ladder frame. Pinned and glued with a
high strength waterproof glue like Gorilla. Light and strong I
hope. I can make a clear curved line with a router which I
cannot do with steel or aluminium, not having metal working
skills. Suspension and wheels attached through bracing plates.
This is a picture of the chassis of my inspiration car, a 1927
Lombard AL3.
