ground clearance

Trying to work out dimensions etc; has resulted in me having to
check the quality of my cans of Strongbow. Having recovered, I
have "designed " what I think the front axle/wheel/chassis will
be like but it has given me a maximum ground clearance of 120mm
(roughly). It doesn't seem to be much considering I haven't
allowed for the drop link for the spring.
The drawing shows an axle made from 50mm x 50mm steel box fixed
to carbon fibre springs(Jump pro). The space between the
uprights on the axle and the chassis is 50mm ish. Is it
enough/too much?

There have been a few in the US that have gone as low as 50 mm
ground clearance, and been OK even on the much rougher courses
than UK use. Personally I would be trying for a little more if
you can. 50 between chassis and axle is a reasonable number I
believe.

Just for reference, the maximum permitted height of a speed bump
in UK is 100mm, though what help that is I'm not too sure ;-)

I'll try to avoid those tracks that have speed bumps. I was sat
staring at the drawing and suddenly I heard a voice
saying...."Put the axle on top of the spring you stupid ****!
That has increased the clearance to about 7". The other idea I
had was to make my own springs. Not from steel. From HDPE. I
just got some carbon fibre ? springs from Ghostbikes. They are
rated at 35Kg but I can hardly deflect them. I would have
thought what bit of suspension they will provide will be hardly
noticeable. I daresay I will be corrected. Anyway, off to play
with some HDPE.

I have 100mm ground clearance (unladen) on my Dodge CK and I
have driven it over some very rough ground at speed with no
problem of grounding out. My New CK has 75mm of clearance and I
think that should be just nice. The lower the Centre of gravity
the better the kart handles and less likely to go on its roof.
