Rear Wheel Hubs
By: Clive H Date: April 28, 2021, 5:19 pm
---------------------------------------------------------
What have others used for their rear wheel to axle hubs, my axle
is Ø25mm and I have been looking on the Gemini site but their
hubs for that size of axle are clamp on units, the only proper
type of hub unit is for Ø1".
StefanN - Would it be possible to start a new thread on Where to
get Stuff with just a list of suppliers and brief description of
what they sell, it would save having to trawl through articles
and not find an answer.
To start -
Steel Suppliers - Rapid Metals (www.rapidmetals.co.uk) They
stock a complete range of metals for collection or delivery.
Axle Springs - Midland Motor Springs -
(www.midlandmotorsprings.com) Suppliers of front axle springs
Engines - Westbank Wholesale (www.westbankwholesale.co.uk)
Suppliers of Lifan engines etc
You get the picture

Absolutely. The aim of the where to find stuff section is
exactly that. Whatever taxonomy you choose, there’s always an
alternative.
If you’re happy to volunteer to maintain a post with a list of
suppliers, that would be excellent. Simply create a topic in
the “where to get stuff” section, with the title “List of
Suppliers” and start compiling the list.
I can pin the Topic so that it’s highlighted.

As far as rear hubs are concerned these are described in various
build journals in the where to get stuff. Try typing “rear hub”
into the search box in the top right hand corner of the website.
Chris Slade, Marek and I have used the aluminium 4 hole hub from
Gemini karts. They normally have studs on but I asked Gemini
to press those out and they did. Chris uses then on Honda
style wheels.

Graham H has come up with a design of steel plate that bolts to
a standard 3 bolt gokart hub, and have a 4 hole pattern that
matches the mounting points on a pitbike wheel, but I suspect
might suit a Honda wheel too. Gemini karts hold the stock and
they are pretty cheap.

I used the Gemini aluminium hub, it has a keyway and it also
clamps to the axle, so it is quite secure. I pressed out the
studs and had to grind off the spigot. They are mated to Honda
rear hubs, see pics.

I've been looking at these Gemini hubs too. I'm also looking to
run a 25mm axle, and can see they have the 25mm clamp-on style
hub, or a 1-inch hub. Given that they are half the price of the
clamp-on style, the 1-inch seemed like the better option, but
only if it's actually going to fit.
Has anyone tried these please? How does the 1-inch hub actually
attach to the axle? and does the extra 0.4mm diameter mean it's
just too loose?
Thanks,
Konrad

I ended up sending a message to Gemini. They confirmed that the
1 inch, non-clamp-on style is fitted to the axle with a locking
ring or spacer for it to rest against on the inside, and a bolt
or nut on the end of the axle for the outside. He also confirmed
that it does need a 1-inch axle, and the 25mm axle will be too
loose.
Slightly un-related, they also confirmed that the bolt pattern
on both the 25mm clamp-on, and 1-inch non-clamp-on hubs is 4 x
4-inch (101.6mm), so doesnt fit the standard 4x100 pattern I was
hoping to use. I'm now on the hunt for a 4x100 version, if
anyone has any recommendations?
I may just ask Gemini if they could re-drill them for me.

I'm in the process of getting hubs made at a local engineering
firm. They are for the Honda ANF125 wheels but should be pretty
close for the C90 wheels. Check your dimensions!
The attached files my be of help if you are going the same
route.

Thanks, Noel, that looks very helpful.
Mind if I ask how much a set of these is going to cost you,
please?

Why not just use the kart hubs available everywhere and the
Gemini adaptor plates at £2 odd?
