It seems to be a rare commodity at the moment, most stockists
have every size but...

Thanks Chris. That's a much better price and not too far for a
'Jolly'. I feel a trip coming on.

I now have my steel. Came very quickly from Metal Mania.
Got ERW 75x25 x1.5 three lengths of 1.5m and 2 of 2m. Total
price (and free delivery) £109.62
No idea if that is the cheapest, but they were the only ones
showing 75x25 on their pages, when I looked.

Bear in mind that Mike Stevenson has posted that they only chose
that size because it was readily to hand. It's not the only game
in town. Of course all previous prices have been affected by Mr
Putin.

When you lack the experience to know what's best, it is safest
to stick to what others have found works.

You are right Tinworm, There are so many build methods that have
worked though, and not all with steel, let alone 75 x 25. all I
was doing was sewing a seed for folks to think if that is the
way they want to go.

Hi all. Has anyone considered the chassis in aluminium? Would
the same size and wall thickness work without increased
deflection or twist? Would the increase in wall thickness
increase the weight enough that it would not be worthwhile? Not
too bothered about the extra $, and I can weld aluminium. Just
trying to cut weight anywhere I can.
Thanks all.

Hi,
Yes several people have used aluminium and even wood. Have a
read of the build journals and you’ll find all sorts of info.
On this forum have a look at Nic’s Bugatti, Rich’s White Riley
and Peter’s Austin.
