       Toggle switches

Anyone know where I might find metal toggle (on/off) switches
with long “necks”? They need to go through a panel that’s about
       12/14mm thick.
I had a look on eBay, Amazon, Google search and have only found
some in the US with high shipping costs.
       Thanks

Have you tried Car Builder solutions? Ignore me, I just looked.
Can you not counter bore the back of the panel to reduce
       thickness?

       This might suit:
  HTML https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Heavy-Duty-Toggle-Flick-Switches-12V-ON-OFF-Car-Dash-Light-Metal-12-Volt-25A/111383821512?hash=item19eefe3cc8:g:NskAAOSwMN9XREG7.
As the diameter of the hole is 12.5mm I'd estimate the thread
length at 15-16mm, as Rhys said you could always counterbore the
back, or to al lesser extent front to reduce the length needed.
A forstner bit will give you a flat bottom recess.

Thanks both. Yes, could bore the back but access is tricky now.
I'll probably cut out a section and set a thinner plate in.

You can inset a washer by using a forstner bit to drill a recess
deep enough for the washer, then finishing the through hole with
a smaller forstner bit, picking up on the centre point left by
       the first bit.

       What about indicator stalk switches
       Or are they too long?

Thanks. Yes I looked at those but for the ones I found,
generally it was the stalk that was long rather than the part
that pushes through the panel. I’ve ended up cutting slots in
the plywood and have an thinner facing to the dashboard.
