That droplink reminds me of my dealings with triumph steering
misalignment joints that sandwich a floating center disc between
2 O rings on each shouldered bolt to allow the bolts to be
       tightened while maintaining cushioned float.

I have asked a friend who owns a few real ones to give some
       input.

Today I remembered that I'd met a really nice guy at La Vie en
Bleu at Prestcott who was rebuilding a real Type 37. So, a
quick phone call and he kindly filled me in on all the detail.
Several layers of leather are glued together and this has an
hole near each end. The edge of this is wrapped in a steel band
which has both edges bent over to hold the leather in. A tube,
just slightly longer than the thickness of the leather goes
through the hole, then there's a large washer on each side and
then a bolt locks all this down tight to either the end of the
damper arm or the to attachment point on the axle. The steel
tube can rotate a little in the hole in the leather and the
leather flexes to compensate for any misalignment as the chassis
and axle move relative to each other.
I've done one side of Version 1. I might make some tweaks to
the design and way I make it - we'll see.

That looks super cool and a real nice bit of functional
       attention to detail.

A long time ago I got it into my head that the Bugatti needed a
copy of the Jaeger tacho in the original. Well it’s taken me
ages and stretched the accuracy of my machine skills, but it’s
starting to looking like it might work. Definitely much
quicker to put in dummy instruments...

Will that be driven by an electronic tacho or purely to enrich
the details of the dash?, I must admit seeing work like that
I've got withdrawal symptoms from not having access to my
       machining centre at work!

Yes I'll be using one of the electronic tacho's we were
       discussing previously on the forum.
The tacho I got from eBay runs up to 10,000 rpm or something
like that and of course we're lucky to get 4,000. There's some
adjustment on the tacho, so hopefully I'll be able to get more
sweep of the needle. For the dial face, I think I'm going to
try some inkjet printable vinyl sticker paper. Screen printed
would be better I suspect but tricky to get the detail and I'm
guessing would want to be an epoxy paint...plus a whole new
process to learn and buy equipment for, so I'll give that a miss
       this time.
I've got various needles from old instruments and clocks, but if
they don't work I'll have to learn how to make one.

I saw the ones that Adrian has done for his cars yesterday,
brilliant. It would be worth touching base with him as he may be
able to do stuff to the Speedline models standard. (that was his
       business so standard is exceptional.

I made the second resilient link today. I made a template from
steel to make it easier to bend the very small lip on the metal
band. I soldered the two parts together with the leather in
place. The result is much neater than the first one so I might
remake that. All part of the learning process I guess.
