Parts from second hand go-karts

Because I have done it more than once, I suggest keeping an eye
on Ebay and Facebook marketplace for complete go karts. I have
just agreed to buy an ex racekart for £200. From that I'll get;
stub axles, pedals steering links, steering column (maybe) ,
steering wheel, Honda engine (mabe OK) rear bearing housings,
bearings, axle, sprocket carrier (at least) rear axle, rear
hubs, and 4 pot brakes with hoses, master cylinder matched to
the system, and cast iron ventilated disc. Perhaps more.
If I flog off the other bits, seat, frame, fairings, wheels etc
it makes a very cheap source of "where to get stuff".

Well, the one I collected today has a 40 mm axle, hollow as you
might expect. That either means many of the components will be
sold, or.. the axle is actually lighter than a 25 mm solid one.
Of course the main issues to resolve really are around mating he
hubs to the wheels, but far from insurmountable.
Fabulous brake system all marked with FIA approvals, cast iron
disc, pedals and front spindles (17 mm), and a very usable GX200
genuine Honda. All the steering components will be very usable,
even if the suede covered steering wheel is somewhat out of
period.

If there's enough scope with keyways, then shortening the axle,
and fitting stubs inside it (front axle spindles?) of a suitable
size for the wheels might be a solution. If it uses the hole fit
keys then it's simply a case of extending the flats, and
drilling extra holes. Then just use the 40mm hubs and adaptor
plates as usual to connect the drive,

The hubs are pretty bulky things, milled from alloy, not heavy
but visual, see the photo. That's the only negative to using as
is with an adaptor plate.

I see what you mean, they are just too long and conspicuous, so
stick them on ebay for £40 the pair post free, with the offers
option. Then buy yourself a pair of these:

Maybe Chris, but those are for a 30 mm axle, not a 40, they are
40 mm wide.!
The axle has now been machined down the end 60 mm to go inside
the wheels which had previously been bored to 37.8. So, the 40
mm axle complete will be in the back of the Napier after a
cuppa. I'll think about the hubs, maybe cut them back some. They
will then have a disc of 3 mm steel bolted to the ends with
countersunk socket screws, and bolt to the wheels. Photo of all
that when it's done.

Ah, in a rush there, as I had to go out to a Christmas Fair,
searched for 40mm hubs, missed that it wasn't bore! There were
other short ones, more expensive though:
