       Drive belts

As my drive belt is looking frayed I decided to treat myself to
a genuine Comet belt. I have a typical Chinese ebay torque
       converter.
Spoke to Gemini and ordered a 203589 belt. It's far too tight -
there's no slip and it's in drive all the time.(no tick over )
I've measured the outer circumference at 681mm - 26.811mm. Just
browsing cheaper belts on Amazon (which are replacements for the
203589 comet belt) and they are about 1 inch longer which would
       stack up.
anybody else had this problem ? where's best source for belts ?
       Bri

Hi Bri, I have Comet TAVs on my cyclekarts but use either Comet
or Chinese belts. I have measured the outer circumference on
these (about 5 belts) and no two were the same length! However,
as you say the Comet belts may be too short for a Chinese TAV.

Been searching through my notes and have found the following
info: Desperate Dan's clone TAV was fitted with an asymmetric
belt (flat side to engine) Pt No YAMEIGE 669 EPDM.
NOTE: It is believed a Comet Pt No 203589A will also fit (outer
circumference 27 3/8” specified dimension in Comet catalogue but
measured the spares I have at 27 1/8”, whereas the 669 belt
measures 26 ¾”. Belts off internet for Chinese TAV Pt No
       203589/5959 measure 27 1/8”)!?
Hope this helps rather than confuses ;D

my Comet belt measures 26 3/4". The reference on the packaging
shows 203589A. the schedule on the back of the packaging gives
the outer circumference as 27 3/8" !!!! The belt is clearly
marked as 203589A so can't fathom it out' Ive double checked the
circumference. Anyway Ian thanks for the info and reference and
I'll take it from here !!

Ian - just removed my old 669 belt and now can see the problem.
It's not about the length of belt (the old one is slightly
smaller than the Comet !! - it's the angle of the of
asymmetrical side of the belt. The Comet has a very slight angle
as opposed to the old belt and therefore the width of the belt
on the inside is much wider and doesn't slip. So again thanks
       for your input and references.

I have a Chinese torque converter and a genuine comet belt , no
issues. Are your driver and driven aligned ?

Yes Tim they appear to be - need to look into it further - my
worn out belt and the other new cheapo Chinese belt pinched from
another torque converter work fine but the asymmetrical side of
the belt is cut at a much more acute angle which I thought was
the problem, but if yours works fine then, well, watch this
space as they say - thanks
